The Painful Kiss of AugustusChapter 4
As what she agreed to, she came exactly eight p.m., and I suddenly wondered if she had gone home after she went here. Something pushed me to strike a conversation through that question but I squelched to do so. She was silently looking up at the sky. The glint on her eyes reflected the vast mystery of the sky as the stars twinkled tantalizingly. The moon gleamed amid of the mysterious sky as it casted the definite silver shaft, pouring its color to the entire vicinity. A raven started to create a grim sound as it passed through the sky, dropping a huge shadow onto the ground.
The solemnity and silence lingered between us. No one darked to break the silence. Crickets started to sing as the dry leaves rattled out of nowhere. Never did I imagine myself enjoying the silence. I always thought that it was void that needed to be filled but somehow, it felt pacifying. There were times that silence was what we needed to contemplate things carefully and to be aware of the important things and people around us.
The black knitted jacket I was wearing was topped with a dark brown trench coat. It was cold and despite the thick cloths I was wearing, the frigidity still lingered on my skin. My eyes dropped to Ivy who was wearing a black trench coat with black fitted pants and boots. She was impeccably mesmerizing as she enjoyed the silence between us.
"It's quiet surprising you're silent right now," she glimpsed at me.
I scoffed and smirked, "I'm just giving you the silence you needed. Besides, I told you that it's okay to share the silence with someone. I cannot be that hypocrite to make noises when you want silence right?"
She faced me, the confusion was now suffused on her eyes, "Why do you like to talk to me?"
I shrugged. Napaisip din. Maybe I was curious about her?
"I'm just curious about you,"
She nodded, "That's actually not the answer I expected."
"What answer did you expect?"
She smiled and shook her head, "You don't need to know."
I cleared my throat, "I understand your qualm about me. You imprinted that impression to all students in this University but to tell you honestly, I am not one of them. There are students out there, wanting to be your friend."
"I don't need friends,"
I clicked my tongue, "You need it. Did you hear the song 'No Man is an Island'?"
"That no man can stand alone?" She inquired, her attention was now all on me.
"Yes," I whispered, slightly distracted when her attention was all paid to me.
"There are people find peacefulness and comfortability with silence, so as with being alone. I am not against to your belief but there are people who can stand alone because some of the time, people you thought who could lift you up, are the one who would pull you down." She whispered coldly as she closed her eyes again as though enjoying the soft caresses of the wind.
"But there are still people who can lift you up. Not all the people would pull you down. It is for you to find out who was wearing a facade and who was not. Because at the end of the day, you still need a hand that can pull you out of darkness."
"But there are people who opt to stay in darkness," she countered, "because it was the only place where they can find peace."
I mouth slowly parted. Napatingin ako sa kaniya at nakita kong seryoso siyang nakatingin sa langit. The silver light coming from the moon bathed her face as it glinted with a radiance of perfection like of a deity. The way she talked and the way she poured out her thoughts amazed me. We had different perspective and I respected her. She found peace in the darkness and she did not want to get out of it. I knew, there were people who comforted themselves with the melancholy that lodged to their lives but hearing it from the woman beside me, it still stupefied me. Heaving a sigh, I stared at the sky, darkness with spewed glitters. Even the mysterious darkness of the sky needed a glints from stars and gleam from the moon, I knew that Ivy's darkness needed a light.
