The Painful Kiss of Augustus

Chapter 3

Days rolled unnoticeably. The cold season was starting to roll in as the wind turned to frigid. As days passed by, it was hard for me to squelch myself to pay an attention to Ivy. Days after I realized that I was stepping outside my appropriate line, I tried to stop myself. This wasn't right. Every time I was in our house at night, I could not sleep thinking about the mysteries on her eyes. It was intriguingly mesmerizing and after which, I just found myself searching about the incident of her brother.

Our practice became hectic. Halos alas nuebe y media na kaming nakakauwi. I tried not to walk along the soccer field because I supposed she was there. I focused on my study and on my extra-culicular activities. Mas maraming ginagawa, mas madaling iwala ang sarili sa pag-iisip sa babaeng hindi ko naman lubos na kilala. Sion tried again his luck to invite me to have a date to his girlfriend's cousin. Just to stop him from pestering me, I gave in.

We were having a date near the pier. The restaurant near the cold pier was soothing. Wandering my eyes to the entire area, I realized that this setting for dates was perfect. The ambiance was giving an amount of romantic vibes as some couples were having intimate conversation. We took a table for four near the barricade. My eyes were fixated to the endless darkness percolated throughout the vicinity. There were counted dots from afar— a fishing boats or vessels in the ocean, I supposed. As the tingling breeze started to crawl on my skin, I started to pay attention to Sion who was obviously giving a perfect pitch to impress his conquest. Watching my friend inventing some imaginative experience he had, I noticed the surreptitious glances from the woman in front of me.

"You're silent," she uttered shyly.

My attention paid to her, "I am not sociable,"

"I see." She nodded and smiled, "I'm glad you agreed to this date,"

"I was free," I shrugged, "Sion is kind of annoying. I just gave him a pair share of good treatment since he's a good friend of mine."

My eyes flitted to her hand who was fidgeting. Alright, she was beautiful. With those pair of dark eyes, perfectly upturned eyebrows, and soft freckles atop the bridge of her nose, she was beautiful compared to other girls I had met. She bit her lower lip as she tried to play with her fingers. Huminga ako ng malalim.

"Nahihiya akong kausapin ka sa school," she admitted, slightly bowing.

Hindi ako nagsalita. Napatingin ako kay Sion nang pasimple niya akong siniko. I cleared my throat and threw a glare to him. This wasn't right, I should have not been here after all. Not because I was confused and crippled due to a particular mysterious girl in the school, I would use someone to pull me out of the room of oddity I was in. Standing, the chair blared startlingy. The girl looked up at me, a right mixture of alarm and dismay flashed across her face as she hastily collected her things.

"August, where are you going?" Sion asked, sporting his 'DO-NOT-RUIN-THIS-NIGHT' look. However, I was fed up of this set up.

He was completely aware of the fact that I was just giving him a favor since he was my friend. But I realized that I was taking the wrong pace. There was no absolute feelings for this woman, I didn't even know her name. Maybe Sion had mentioned her to me but never did I memorize her. It may sound asshole but when I was not interested to someone, there was no chance for me to pay even an ounce of attention. As I had said, what was the use of giving this a try when you knew to yourself that this was not getting into something more than casual meet up?

Due to the sound I made, the attention of the people had been riveted at us. However, I was determined to stop this date. Tapos na rin lang naman kaming kumain. Pinaunlakan ko na rin ang kagustohan ng aking kaibigan kaya sa tingin ko ay okay na 'to.
