Finally made it home
Those blue and brown slopes of wonder
Best place on this damn fine planet
Nothing could be this beautiful, not even if it was painted
The streams roll like a chaotic wagon
Great horned owls howl in the distance
Ravens flutter about on rocks
Mountain goats jump like Italian plumbers
Snow gathers in crowds
To witness cliffs cry their waterfall tears
Clouds slide by, looking like pieces on a chess board
The mountains stare at their watery reflections
Creamy skies with popcorn clouds
I'd eat the sky if I had a big enough spoon
The moon goes skinny dipping at night
As the stars cheerfully watch
The fields look like a golden ram fleece
That Jason and his Argonauts had to fight for
At night the sky looks like Mount Vesuvius
Fire and lightning, very very frightening me
On one end snow
On the other, plateaus
Canyons like giant mouths
Opening up to swallow Earth
It's been so long since I've been here
Yet I remember every last cliff and cave
All those years ago, and it's stayed with me
And finally, it's home now
I feel like a marvelous king
Surrounded by all these riches
From Denver to Aspen to Colorado Springs
Miles and miles of beauty and elegance
