before the burn out
I bought five plants
rosemary, chlorophytum
peace lily, elephant ear and mogra.
all but two
droop over their pots
the roots are frayed
and tangled
those grisly wires
hang down in empty
vessels with only
heat for soil,
bitter water,
and an unforgiving sun.
