"Who are you and what do you want?" Karson Magellan inquired, with a confused expression on his face, as Alyssa Taylor stood in front of him, her hands on her hips, glaring. The same girl from earlier was almost strangling Karson's body in a tight hold. The girl glared at Alyssa, almost killing her with her eyes.

Alyssa rolled her eyes, asking Karson, "I thought you liked Penny?"

"He likes me!" the girl squeaked in a shrill piercing voice. "Not some brat named Penny."

Karson cocked his head to the side. "I'm sorry. I don't know you. Could you please leave now?" He was looking strangely awkward and was avoiding Alyssa's gaze.

Alyssa gaped at his words. "What's wrong with you?!"

Jacob, who had tagged along, tried to pull Alyssa away from that scene. "Hey, come on," he whispered to her, looking around anxiously. "You're probably mistaken. Clearly, he doesn't know you."

Karson nodded, with an over-the-top confused expression on his face. "Yeah, I don't know you."

"You brat!" Alyssa screeched as loudly as she could, having the sudden urge to pull his hair in anger. "How could you forget your own sister?"

Jacob gaped almost comically. "What's going on? If he is your brother then that makes him the guy Penny is obsessed with?!"

"No, definitely not!" Karson retorted snobbishly. "Kiara, let's go. I don't know this crazy girl."

Karson wrapped his arms around the leech-girl, turning away to join his other friends. Alyssa was highly confused. Did Karson really have a sudden bout of amnesia? But that seemed highly impossible. He seemed to be trying too hard to prove the point that he didn't know her. Then why was he trying to do it? It made no sense to Alyssa. However, suddenly hit by a brainstorm, Alyssa shouted, "By the way, I'm not going back home until much later today. If anyone sees my mother, make sure to inform her."

Karson halted, rounding on his feet and blurting out, "What?! Why?"

Immediate realizing his slip, his hands flew to his mouth as he mumbled, "Sorry, sorry! I really do not know this crazy girl. Kiara, let's go."

He dragged a sticky Kiara away. Alyssa rolled her eyes, turning her attention back to Jacob, who was standing beside her like a statue. And unfortunately for Alyssa, the whole cafeteria was staring at her as if she were an alien species. Alyssa winced. Unlike popular belief due to ambiverted personality, she did not like attention among strangers.

Shaking his head with an amused look, Jacob turned his whole attention to Alyssa. "Sit with us? Come on," he said, directing her to his table.

***

Jacob's friends mostly consisted of his fellow Basketball team members. Apart from Penny and Clarissa, they were all boys. And Alyssa could not, for the sake of herself, remember any of their names.

Alyssa talked to Penny most of the time, having already had an acquaintance with her from their Winchestor days.

In the middle of their conversation, Jacob turned his attention back to Alyssa. "So what was that whole thing about?"

"Pfft," Alyssa snorted, shaking her hand dismissively. "He is my brother, he's just afraid I'll drive away his girlfriend or something. I never knew he had a girlfriend though."

"He doesn't," Penny said quietly, her sad eyes cast downwards. "He flirts with almost every girl on this planet. It's a different one everyday."

Alyssa quietened at that. Karson seemed to have a totally different shade in school. He hadn't been like that in Mel's Town, though it could have been because he had a sole objective for going there.

Penny was a really pretty girl, with platinum blonde hair, wide grey eyes and an innocent shy expression. She looked very unlike Jacob, though her personality was usually like his - bubbly, friendly and cheerful. But now she seemed so sad. Alyssa felt like hitting Karson for being such a playboy.

She remembered her conversation with Karson the previous day.

"You won't have a problem if I dated her, right?" He had looked nervous.

"Not yet." He'd emphasised on the yet.

Was Alyssa reading too much info if or was he, indeed, interested in Penny?

"Penny, I don't want to get your hopes up, but there is a chance that he likes you," Alyssa said, carefully choosing her words.

"Hm, you think so?" Penny asked dazedly. However, she quickly blinked herself out of the daze and said, her cheerful voice sounding rather forced, "Doesn't matter! Anyway, how come you two got detention? I didn't even see you in Advance Maths. Where were you guys?"

Alyssa sighed. "Long story. In short, you're brother is a stupid idiot and I am an impulsive one."

A/N : What do you think is Karson's issue? What's his real self like? I wonder...
