"You're kidding me!" Alyssa said, her eyes widening. "You're lying!" Her knees were trembling. She didn't have the strength to remain standing anymore...
"I'm not joking. Well, I'm not exactly your brother. More like, your half-brother. Fiona Magellan is as much your mother as she is mine."
Alyssa didn't even registerthe fact that a celebrity artist was her mother. She was too shocked by the fact her biological mother was even alive and well... Unless Karson was lying.
"If she really is my mother, and you are my brother, then why didn't I know if it before? Why didn't you come to meet me before my dad...?" Alyssa blinked through her tears.
karson sighed remorsefully. "As for me, I didn't even know of your existence, just like you didn't know of mine. Our mother, I think she wanted to, but Ander and mom had had made a deal during their divorce. They would never, ever, interfere in each others' lives. Not even if the world was ending. That's how much they hated each other."
Alyssa stared at Karson, before finally deciding to ask him. "Why didn't she come here herself then? Does she even want me?"
"Of course she does! But she was scared. She was worried you'd hold a grudge against her, for not coming in your life sooner. You remember that day when she kept calling me?"
"At Majorica's house?"
"Yes. She was more interested in your than me. She almost had a good mind to come down to Mel's Town that very day and meet you, whether or not you accepted her. I had to convince her to stay put. People would've suspected if she'd suddenly come here right before her giant exhibition there. You know, the tabloids are famous for false rumours..."
"Oh..." Somehow, Alyssa felt relieved. She had a family; a family which wanted her. But she still had so many questions. "Did you join this school for real, or just to find me?"
At that, Karson literally burst out laughing. "No, I couldn't possibly join this school permanently. I'm still a grade 9 student, two years younger than you. And I'll soon have to go back to New York. The sooner the better, since I've already missed so many weeks of classes."
By that time, it had finally imprinted itself in Alyssa's mind that he was telling the truth. Suddenly, she felt like crying - with happiness. She hugged Karson tightly. "I'm so glad, Karson! I not only got a mother, but also an amazing brother!"
Karson patted her back, smiling with joy. "And I a sister! But first, we need to talk to mom."
He pulled out his phone, dialing a few digits before holding the phone out to her. Alyssa gave him an awkward smile. "I don't know what to say!"
Karson smiled, before bringing his lips near her ears in a secretive manner. He said, "I doubt you'll have to say anything much. She'll be the one blabbering. Don't tell mom I said that, though!"
Alyssa pressed 'call' and brought the phone to her ears. By that time, despite Karson's joke about Fiona Magellan's talkative nature, Alyssa was a nervous wreck.
She'd be talking to her mother.
