"That will be all for today, thank you. You may leave now. I don't want to keep you from your families. I mean it shoo." Annabeth said. Although she told us to get out, I decided to stay. I probably should listen to my boss, but we were friends and I didn't have any family to get home to so I figured she would be fine with me staying.
Annabeth must have heard me move or something because she turned around with her head facing down looking at a few papers in her hands"I thought I told you to go ho- oh, it's you."
"You don't seem very happy that it's me. Besides, you know me. No kids to get home to, no husband to get home to." I replied.
Out of nowhere, she collapses into her chair at the head of the table and puts her head into her hands. Her shoulders started to shake and soon, I realize that Annabeth Chase was crying. Never in the 2 short years that I have known her, have I seen Annabeth cry. I quickly rushed to her side.
"Annabeth?" I ask softly. Her cries slow down and get quieter, but they don't stop.
"Can you please just take me home?" She asks, her voice shaky from crying.
"What about your car?"
"That's a problem for tomorrow." There was definitely something wrong with Annabeth, I thought. She was always one to get things done and never had I heard her talk about waiting to get something done. Well, until now that is. Nonetheless, I agreed to take her home and helped her to collect all of her stuff.
In the car, I tried to get it out of Annabeth as to why she was crying. "Sooo, are you going to tell me why you started crying or are we just going to ignore it?" She just continued to look out the window, so I took it as a sign to stop asking her questions and just let her be.
Soon enough we were at Annabeth's house, well more like a mansion. I didn't understand how Annabeth, a 25 year old, and two other people needed such a big house. Especially when those two other people were both under the age of 4.
I did hear somewhere though that Annabeth designed the house, so maybe she designed it to have everything that she wanted in it. And since she was a successful company owner she had the money to build something like this.
"Hey, Annabeth?"
"Yeah?"
"Did you design your house, did someone else, was it just a house that you found that you really liked or what?" Anything to try and get her mind off of whatever had made her really sad before.
And for a little while it worked, but not for long.
She told me how she had indeed designed it and showed me all of the little details that screamed Annabeth. There were some things that I was curious about though, like why such a big pool in the back? From where we were sitting in the car in the driveway, the pool looked really deep, don't ask me how I could tell, I just could. As far as I knew Annabeth didn't swim, and Haley and Micah were too little to be swimming in such a deep pool, so I wondered again, the reason for the pool?
"How come you decided to build your own house and not just find one that was smaller or one better suited for just the three of you?"
"Well, it isn't for just the three of us it's for the four of us." As she finished speaking her voice got so quiet that I almost couldn't hear her.
"The four of you? Who's the fourth person? Annabeth!" I faked a gasp, "do you have a secret husband I don't know about!?" I don't know if this makes me a bad friend or something, but as I was taking I didn't realize that Annabeth had started to cry again, and when I pretended that she had a secret husband she started to cry harder.
