Monday
Ohmmmm. I stretched my arms above my head and looked at the bed across from mine. Laying under her covers was my roommate Annabeth. I was always up before her because she stayed up so late doing homework, or studying. Besides, she always has later classes in the morning, so it's not like she's late or anything. I don't think Annabeth is capable of being late anyways.
Now, enough about Annabeth, and more about ME! I don't want to sound self-centered or anything though. I always have to get up before Annabeth because I have classes before her's start and I don't want to be late. I get out of my bed, and shiver as my feet touch the cold floor.
I walked out of my dorm room and took the stairs downstairs. And in case you were wondering, I did change. I just didn't tell you that bit you perv.
I got to the first floor and went to check Annabeth's and I's mailboxes to see if we got anything. Neither of us really ever got anything but I checked each day regardless. I opened mine, and . . . nothing. No surprise there. I opened and two things fell out.
Once I got over my shock that Annabeth got not one thing, but two, I bent down to pick them up. I quickly realized that one of the things was a yellow rose. And not a fake one either, a real live one. How did someone mail a real live rose? The other was just an ordinary letter with Annabeth's name scrawled on the front.
I walked back up the stairs to our dorm, and tried to figure out if the rose and the letter were connected. I guessed they were, because if they weren't, then how did however sent it expect Annabeth to know who it was from.
When I got back to the dorm, I knocked on the door to make sure that I didn't walk in on Annabeth changing.
"You can come in!" She yelled.
"Hey, you got mail today. This rose, and a letter. I think they are supposed to be together, but i'm not sure," I said as I handed her the rose and letter.
"Really? Thanks."
"Yeah, sooooo who's it from?" She opened the letter and unfolded the piece of paper. As soon as she started to read it, she gasped and her hand flew to her mouth. I even thought that I saw tears start to form in her eyes.
"Did you see anyone around that you didn't know?"
"No, I was actually the only one there."
"Are you sure?" Now the tears were coming out of her eyes and she quickly reached up to wipe them away.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Who's it from?" I asked, knowing she would know that I was talking about the letter.
"It's um, from my boyfriend. He's um he's in the - the Navy."
"Oh Annabeth! How long has it been since you last saw him?" I ask as I quickly stand up from where I was sitting on my bed to move over to hers to give her a sideways hug.
"Uh, he's been gone for 10 months. Yesterday actually, marked the 10 month mark. You've known me since I started my freshman year of college here." I nodded at this. "Well then you probably have noticed that I haven't slept as well the past months - the ones that my boyfriend Percy has been gone - because we both have PTSD and will get nightmares about fears that the other is gone." I actually had noticed that she wasn't sleeping as well. "Before we would still get nightmares but we would be able to call each other or FaceTime each other so we had reassurance that the other was okay and alive but now we can't because of the time difference and um who the calls would alert."
