I trudged my sore body to my bedroom, stripping off my clothes and putting on silk black slip. Sighing deeply, I stood on my bed and closed my eyes. After taking a few deep breaths, I let myself fall. At first, my heart felt as if it stopped beating, but shortly, the soft feathered bed caught me in it's arms. I laughed, it felt like there was something in my throat. Just then, my door opened, and a red head walked in, laughing. "What the heck are you doing??" She said, sitting on the edge of my bed. I laughed and replied,"free falling!" She snorted and continued,"well, me and the girls want to go celebrate. It's tradition. So you really don't have a choice." She smirked and walked over to my dresser, pulling out a short, white dress. "I'm glad you haven't washed your face yet. Here." She threw the dress at me, I caught it and stood up, walking to the mirror. I put it on carefully, and stared at my reflection, fixing my hair. Anna walked over and handed me some tall white shoes. "I've never worn heels before." I say. She laughed and replied "ok? Your an alpha wolf but can't walk in heels? I'm sure you can learn. You'll be a natural. Just put them on, were going to be late." I slipped on the uncomfortable shoes and followed Anna out the door.
~The car pulled up to a huge mansion, that looked like it was built in Ancient Rome. There was a pool that had half clothed people in it, swimming around, forgetting their troubles by replacing them with more. Mostly everyone looked to be outside, drunkly dancing. There was a DJ and a laser show, it was a surprise that no one had had a seizure yet. Anna gave a sly smile and said,"let's go" she turned the car off and walked out, strutting in a way it would never know how. I sighed nervously and climbed out of the car, what was I getting myself into?
I felt unnatural as I walked in the heels. I don't understand the purpose of them. Haden came up behind me and grabbed my arm saying,"I don't like these things either." We laughed. "Can you read my mind too?" I asked halfway jokingly. "Well, no. But it's not that hard to tell that your uncomfortable. Most people are. But don't worry, we are your un-biological sisters now. We won't let anything happen." She smiled reassuringly and we made our way to the pool. I stood there with Haden for a while, until she dismissed herself, because she apparently had to use the restroom. I took a seat by the pool and watched the people around me. I could feel so many different emotions, from so many diffrent people. Maybe I'm an empath. As I sat, staring at the dancing fools, a boy approached me. He was a nice looking guy-tall, tan, dark hair and pretty eyes. However, in those eyes there was a true darkness. The fox in sheep's clothing. "Hey." He smirked. I looked down and muttered a faint "hey." He bent down to my level, and looked me in the eyes. "I'm Luke, what's your name?" Once again, he smirked. I showed no emotion and replied with "Leda." Maybe if I was short with him, he would leave me alone. "I saw you sitting over here, you looked lonely," he scooted closer to me,"I got you a drink." He pushed his drink up to my face. I could smell the alcohol in it, but there was also another distinct smell that a could not figure out. "No thanks." I said, pushing the drink slowly away. He scoffed, I could tell that he was getting impatient. "Look, I'm just trying to be nice. Take the drink." He said smirking, but his eyes were darker than before, and I could feel his fury. I was getting very uncomfortable, and I felt like a wounded animal being cornered. I could feel my eyes begin to heat up and glow. I stood up and looked him in the eye,"I said no." He stood up, looming over me. His fist was slightly raised, but I did not cower. I began to feel my nails grow. "LUKE!" A muscular boy with brown hair ran over and grabbed Luke by the arm, pulling him away from me. "What the hell luke?! I saw you put the stuff in there! She's just a girl!" The boy said. Luke pulled his arm away from him and walked away, fuming. I felt my eyes lighten and my nails went back to their normal size. I crossed my arms over my chest and sat back down. Looking up at the boy, I said "hey." He looked down at me and smiled sympathetically,"hey," he say down,"sorry about that-luke is-luke...im Adam." I nervously looked at him, his eyes seemed pure, and his aurora was fair. "I'm Leda. Leda Mason." I say smiling slightly. The corners of his mouth slightly rise, and he says,"it's nice to meet you. You didn't come here alone did you?" He asked. I laughed light and replied with,"no, I came here with 4 other girls. I have no idea where any of them are now." I felt a cool breeze and shivered slightly. "You cold?" He asked laughing. "Well, it's October and it's a pool party. Those two don't exactly mix." I say, dishonoring the logic of it. He smiled and stood up, holding out his hand. "We can go inside, it's a lot less hectic in there." I nodded and took his hand as he led the way to the large house. We were sitting on the couch, laughing and talking. We even exchanged phone numbers. While he was getting choked on his beer, I heard a loud thud from upstairs. Curiously, I said,"what was that?"
"Me. Choking." He replied, slowly breathing.
"No not you. The this from upstairs." I say, getting off the couch and making my way up the stairs. Most of the doors were open, revealing unmade beds and sleeping teens. But at the end of the hall, the door was closed. I pressed my ear against it, and could hear faint breathing. "Someone's in here." I say. "Wait! Don't go in, you don't know who could be in there!" Adam said in a hushed whisper. Although he was right, I just had a feeling that I was supposed to open it. "I don't care." I say and I turn the knob, unfortunately, it was locked. Making sure that he wasn't looking, I grew out my nails and picked the lock with my claw until it popped open. I slowly opened the door, and walked inside.
I saw a dark-haired girl laying on her stomach on the floor. Adam was behind me, and I rushed over to her, when I flipped her over, I saw that it was Mai. She was barley conscious but still breathing. I could heal her, but I couldn't let Adam see. "Adam, go get some help." I say. He stared in shock for a moment, but then ran out of the room.
Since I had never really "healed"anyone before I didn't know what to do. I put my hands over her body, trying to feel the source of the pain. It was strongest in her head, so I focused my energy on her, and transferred it to her. I felt lightheaded, but then she raised up slowly. "Wha-" she started, but I stopped her. I picked her up by her shoulders and helped her out of the house and outside. I saw Anna Kay first, she came rushing over, and helped me carry her. "What happened?!" She asked. "I don't know, I found her barley conscious but I brought her back. Let's find the others and get back home." I said. We found Haden by the drinks, and Anna was in the pool.Once we finally got home, we all went to my bedroom. I sat Mai on the bed and waited for her to adjust. "Mai, what happened?" I ask. She looks at me with cold eyes, but then they soften. In a small voice, she says,"I don't want to talk about it." The first thing I thought, was that she was stupid enough to take a drink from some guy. "You didn't take any drinks from anyone did you?!" I ask worriedly. "What? No-no..I-" she started but Anna Kay finished,"she overdosed." Some of the girls gasped, and I just looked at her, then down at the floor. "Guys, give us some space." I said. Then all the other girls walked out. After the door closed, I sighed deeply and said,"look, I know that you don't want to tell me everything-and that's okay. But we obviously have a connection, so I will understand."
She laughed and threw her head back lightly on the pillow,"no you won't. You don't understand what it's like to be the darkness." I clenches my jaw and said,"Mai, your letting the role get to your head. Your not evil. Your not the bad one. Both of us work together to keep the balance in the supernatural world. One cannot persist without the other. Even though I am "light", I have had dark times. And I'm sure somewhere along the way you have had light times. Both light and dark lives in us both, sometimes it just becomes unbalanced. You just need to find your balance. And I'm here to help you." I put my hand on hers and look into her eyes, hoping that something I said made a difference. I think it did, because in that moment, a dark air lifted from the room and I could feel light flood in. She smiled lightly. "I guess your right..thank you." I smiled and said "welcome, that's what I'm here for."
We talked for hours, most of it was rubbish. She didn't talk about her past but I could tell that she was worried about the future. Mai was a true mystery, but I believe that one step at a time, I could mend her. At the end of the night, we ended up falling asleep on the cold floor.
