As we entered the cramped, dusty storage cupboard, a million thoughts were swirling around in my head. But my mind had setled on one thing at the moment; BH. You know why? Because I thought it was Bennidict. I mean, when a guy who keeps showing up out of nowhere has the same enitials as the ones you just read about in a bunch of creepy files, you start to get weirded out. But the thing was, I wasn't sure if those were his real enitials. Remember 'Just Bennidict'?
Both me and Clare had been asking him questions, just dropping them in when relevant, but he didn't want to answer. And I didn't blame him. I wouldn't answer some of the questions we asked him. I sortta feel like I understand him.
Clare said she had a secret food supplier and I could really use some of that then, because I was starving. And nobody can think straight on an empty stomach. I only just remembered that I hadn't eaten since the breakfast of the day I was abducted. And that felt weeks ago.
"So, what was that food supply you were talking about?"
"Well," Clare began. "I didn't want to tell you because I'm not exactly sure."
"Go on."
"I think that we have a double agent whitecoat."
That was big news! With someone on the inside, escaping this death trap should have been easy.
"Every time I seem to need it, I find food in the most convinient places. Doesn't that seem weird to you?" she said.
"Not if we have someone on the inside!" grinned Bennidict.
"Yeah, the thing is, I don't know which one it is," Clare murmered, finally glancing around the inside of the cupboard. It was a small thing, cluttered with shelves that had been loaded up with junk that nobody wanted. Clothes, tools of some sorts, the perfect place for us to lie low until we could come up with a plan.
Suddenly, I heard the pattering of half a dozen feet on hard, marbled floors.
"Bennidict, quick!" I yelled at him. "The key!" I indicated at the door. "I said quickly!"
Bennidict snapped into action, and fumbled with the key, trying to get it into the lock.
"Ugh! Just give it here!" I snapped.
"Hurry up!" Clare said panicingly. They were getting closer to our cupboard.
Me and Bennidict finally got the key in the lock and turned, just a few seconds before there was a massive bang on the door. My heart had never raced so hard. We all stood in silence, our heavy breathing stopped abruptly and I saw Clare close her eyes. She suddenly looked so much younger, about 12, and I felt so mean, just coming and bossing her about. Now it might be over for her. And, somehow, I felt responcible. For her and Bennidict. My eyes turned to him next. He was cowering by the door, his eyes also closed. He made me feel like, no matter what secrets he had, I should protect him and stand by him. I bet the poor boy had been through alot. It's strange, in the dark, everyone looks more inocent.
The banging stopped as suddenly as it had started and I heard the footsteps fade away. I could breathe again!
"I think we'd better keep that door locked from now on," said Bennidict. I think he was right.
