Do you ever have days where you start to wake up but your brain tries to tell you to go back to sleep? That's what this morning was like. I kept trying to wake up but for some reason, I couldn't keep my eyes open for longer than a few seconds. I also had a terrible headache but if my days in the infirmary were going to start being very slow, I could probably go in the kitchen and sleep on the couch Alex snuck in. With that thought, I forced myself to wake up so that I could get ready for the day and meet up with Alex for breakfast. He didn't stay with me tonight, which was strange since I remembered us talking about him staying the night with me again.
When I woke up, I realized that I had no clue where I was. Come on, Cee. You can figure this out. Just try to remember last night, I thought.
I felt something in my throat but I couldn't get rid of it. Something started beeping as I started panicking and I finally put two and two together. There was a tube helping me breathe and I was hooked up to a heart monitor, but we only have one in the infirmary in the back room, and I was definitely not in the back room. This room was much bigger than the back room and didn't have my desk with a mess of papers. Where am I, I thought.
Someone in scrubs very similar to the ones I usually wore came in, but it wasn't one of my nurses. She was probably around 30 and most of my nurses were at most 25, except one who was in her 40's.
"Everything's okay, Cecelia. I'll take this tube out now that you're awake then I'll get the doctor and your boyfriend," She told me.
"Don't try to talk," she said before she left.
I looked around the room and saw how boring it was. The walls were a crème color, not a good choice for a room that could potentially get covered in blood, there was a window that showed the setting sun, a lamp by the door, and a chair that someone had put next to the bed.
Alex came in and sat down in the chair by the bed. He didn't say anything but he kept looking at me. I was about to try to talk to him when someone came in and introduced himself as my doctor. Why did I need a doctor? Why couldn't one of the other nurses treat me? What had even happened?
"You were stabbed multiple times in the abdomen, kicked and punched many times, and have a very bad concussion. We weren't expecting you to wake up for at least another day. Your boyfriend here found you but didn't see who did it. Do you remember anything?" The doctor asked.
I shook my head.
"Hopefully as your concussion heals it'll come back to you, but until then the only light allowed in here is that lamp. You can have it on or off as much as you like but no other lights are allowed to be on. You're also not allowed to get up or try to walk. You can talk as much as you want and I'll allow your boyfriend to be here tonight even though visiting hours end soon," He finished and walked out.
Alex and I were quiet for a little while. I wasn't sure if I should be talking and Alex was fuming in his seat. Every time he looked at me it seemed to get worse
"I'm going to kill him," Alex finally said.
"What happened?" I tried to ask but my voice was barely audible.
"I knew he was no good, I knew it. I should've told my mom everything but I was waiting for proof, I guess I got it. Cee, I promise, he's not getting away with this," he kept going on.
"Alex, what happened? Who are you going to kill?"
"Alan."
"Alan?"
