➡️Sophie's POV⬇️

We walked out of the cafeteria and he leaves for a moment to get clothes from his locker. I can smell him before he even comes around the corner but can't go to him because Colten is blocking my path. As I try to go around him, he grabs my arm jerking me back.

He had never done anything like this before and it pissed me off to no end. We'd agreed from the beginning of our relationship that we'd part whenever one of us found out mates with no hard feelings, though that no longer seemed valid in his mind. A deep growl fills the hallway as Hunter comes around the corner into my line of sight. The sound is driving my wolf crazy, she wants to go to her mate. Another growl echoes through the hallway when he sees Colten's hand still wrapped around my arm. I can't help the small whimper as his grip tightens painfully.

My breath catches in my throat as he strides forward. His 6'6" frame casts a long shadow from the bright light behind him. Broad shoulders connect to muscular forearms. He reaches us in just a few strides and I watch, mesmerized, as Colten's eyes widen in fear and suddenly the pressure on my arm disappears. Hunter is holding my beta a foot off the ground.

Anger is blazing in Hunter's eyes and he growls, "You seem to be a bit slow today, she said it's over between you two. Sophie is mine". Hunter gives Colten a warning to stay away from me and he nods once before Hunter flings him down the hall, giving him one last glare before turning his attention towards me.

He steps closer and reaches out to press his fingertips to my cheek. The second he touched me, the tingles erupted against my skin. I lean into his touch and smile. He smiles down at me before pulling me against his chest.

I wrap my arms around his waist and press my face against his warm chest. I can feel his heart beat and suppress a sigh. We stay like this for a few minutes before he pulls away. I look down, taking a step backwards as tears threaten to form. He puts his finger under my chin and tilt my face up, a worried look crosses his handsome face.

Hunter gives me a small smile and he tells me that he needs to check my arm. I just nod as he reaches out to take my jacket. After removing my jacket, his eyes turn stormy again and I follow his gaze to my left bicep. Dark blackish-blue bruises have already formed from Colten's fingers.

Hesitantly he reaches out to brush his fingers over the marks. When I accidentally flinch, he glances at me before placing a butterfly kiss on my arm. I shudder at the feeling, making him laugh.

I love the sound and replay it over again in my head as he helps me put my jacket back on. He bends down to grab my bag that I had dropped at my feet. He slings it over his shoulder and holds out his hand for mine. I laugh and take ahold of his. We walk out of the building.
