"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time."
― Mark Twain
March 3rd 1967
T'was a late night down in Spinners End. The sky was an eerie dark blue, almost black and what looked like a canopy of bright stars swimming amongst the ocean of blackness. Some were dull, barely flickering and being outshone by the more shimmering stars in the cloudless night.
A family of 3- a mother, father and a daughter were walking back from a dinner party, hosted by a co-worker of the father. The father was dressed in dark maroon robes fitted with a white dress shirt and matching bowtie, his dark brown hair combed back. The mother was dressed in a gold floor length dress with her black hair elegantly pinned up in a bun. The daughter was dressed in a light blue dress, dark hair like her fathers was curled passed her shoulders.
The 3 of them were happily chatting away about their favourite part from the previous events, not knowing of what were just a few feet of them. Once they had past an old white cottage, a man appeared out of the shadows. This man, dressed in black robes and a mask covering his face, stood menacingly in front of the family.
The menacing man held a wand, about 13-inches, and held it in his right hand pointing directly at the victims. The wand looked like it was a bone, a pale cream coloured wand. The father cautiously stepped forward, hands up, asking what he wanted and they meant no harm. The threatening man answered back saying he wanted the locket around the mothers neck. The locket that belonged to the man he based his plans on. The mother hesitated, the locket was given to her for her to protect and keep hidden. But for the well being of her loved ones, she took off her locket and placed it on the ground a few feet in front of her.
The man quickly bent down and snatched the locket in his left hand. Feeling the urge to further protect his family, the father took out a wand as well, and pointed his weapon at the man. Seeing this, the threatening man darkly chuckled and aimed his wand at the father. Both about to say an incantation- the man beat him by shouting the spell 'Avada Kedavra!' With a scream from the two females, the father fell to the ground dead. The mother, heartbroken, started to whip out her wand but before she succeeded she suffered the same fate as her lover. All that was left was the small innocent child. With tears streaming down her face and a sob forcing its way out had caused her small body to tremor, she stood before the murderer.
The menacing man taunted her and aimed his wand. The girl, realising she was going to die, closed her eyes. She waited for 8 seconds...9...10...11...but nothing happened. She opened only her left eye to see the man before her had taken his mask off. She could see a dark smirk on his pale face, dark eyes to match and black, slightly curled hair peeking out from the hood. Confused, the girl let out a whimper.
"Oh I'm not going to kill you...not yet anyway, no no no. I am going to let you live on without the feeling of love and comfort from your family, and of course from others. Your blood traitor parents' deaths will forever haunt you."
Terrified to the core, the small girl started to back away but the man caught her arm and slashed his wand across her cheekbone. The child fell to ground, screaming in pain and crying from despair. The pale man simple smirked and apparated into thin air.
It was hours before an old man with a long grey beard appeared beside the young girl. He soothed her, while four other men went to her parents' bodies, and picked her up in his arms and disappeared into the night.
