Chapter 10: That's What She Said.

I wake up from sleep to the rays of sunshine burning up my neck and chest, and to the distant laughter of my best friend.

I get up and stretch but stop immediately when my neck and shoulders complain. Suddenly, yesterday's events run through my mind like a movie and I remember jumping into the ocean after a dog and getting scratched.

Dragging my feet, I join Faye in our kitchen with a yawn.

"Welcome back," She greets while making scrambled eggs, "I thought you weren't gonna wake up till late afternoon." She pauses whatever she was watching on the computer.

"What time is it now?" I ask as I slide on the couch and sleep on the pillow.

"Just after twelve," she answers while scooping eggs into two plates.

"When did you get here? I didn't hear you..." I ask, the pillow muffling my voice.

"No wonder, you were comatose," she comes to the living area with a platter. I take a plate and sit to eat, "I finished work, too. I rifled through all the pictures and sent them already."

"Wow," I look at her after shoveling food into my mouth, "I didn't even brush my teeth, yet..."

"You're disgusting," she comments, "But, I'll let it slide because I'm in a great mood."

"How much?"

"Twenty-five hundred."

I choke on my food instantly.

"Oh my God, you're choking.... Okay," Faye puts her plate on the table and gets up, "What... oh my God... okay try to breathe..."

As I'm coughing my lungs out, Faye rushes to get me water. I take a huge gulp then start breathing in oxygen.
