na jaemin

to say jaemin was surprised would be an understatement. he had been minding his own business, angry-walking to the mission room, when someone tapped on his shoulder. his temper did not help the situation and so when he turned to look at who the person trying to grab his attention was, he had a scowl etched deep into his features. lee jeno ?

before jaemin could ask him what he wanted, the mission alarm began to ring again, this time louder. oh no, this wasn't really happening !

"we should hurry up," jeno said, and made jaemin go into complete mental-breakdown mode. jeno couldn't be his partner right ? he'd rather have a mission with their newest recruit jisung than be with the one and only ultimate failure : lee jeno.

the pink-haired teen was snapped out of his semi-breakdown as the other boy cleared his throat, clearly hoping to walk next to the younger. and so with a sigh and without another word, he began to awkwardly walk alongside jeno towards their destination.

...

lee jeno

"no!" said jaemin, for the tenth time during their meeting, making jeno frown, though he too had to admit that the offer sounded very fishy.

they had spent the last hour being briefed for a mission, that just honestly seemed like a prank to them both. to jaemin, it was a question of what all sins he had possibly committed to be faced with such a punishment, while, on the other hand, to jeno, it seemed way too good to be true.

he had been one hundred percent convinced he was being called to be fired, and as much as he loathed his job, he had to keep his father's reputation intact and make a living to support his mother, whose livelihood was just a little flower-shop, down the street from his family home.

but no, he was being sent on a mission abroad, to italy, and that too with his- well, crush. it just sounded too perfect.

much to his dismay, the crush in question seemed absolutely appalled by the idea of going on a mission with him, and was not afraid of expressing his resentment throughout the course of their hour long briefing.

"agent lee? i know you are new in the field, but i expect nothing but professionalism from you during the course of these three months." the mission head, mr. moon, said to him, the sweetness in his voice sounding a much too forced. as a reply, jeno just nodded timidly, and both agents  were dismissed.

jeno wanted to talk to jaemin about why he was so against the idea of working with him, but the younger simply raced past him towards the cafeteria.

na jaemin

"injunnie, you don't get it, this could potentially ruin my whole career!" whined the pink haired assassin to his best friend.

"stop overreacting!" he shot back." i know you hate him or whatever, but if you succeed in this-which i know you will-you might just get promoted to a senior agent. you do know what a huge opportunity you're thinking of letting go  just because of your supposed hatred for lee jeno?"

jaemin huffed. of course he knew. he'd been looking to be promoted for the past year now, and this mission seemed like the perfect push towards his goal. and after all, his dislike for jeno couldn't prove to be much of an obstacle right? he had dealt with what he thought of as some of the worst humans out there, regarded many had left both emotional and physical scars on him, he had dealt with them nonetheless. he was convinced it couldn't be that bad.

and so he said to the brunette sitting across from him, "you know what, i'll do the stupid mission and get my fucking promotion!" both boys cheered, blissfully unaware of the fact that the topic of their discussion, lee jeno, sat just a table behind them, dejectedly listening in on their whole conversation.

turns out it really was that bad.
