"I can't do it." The White Knight dropped his sword and turned towards his king.
The White King stood up from his throne and roared. "My orders are absolute. They come from God Himself. You dare defy me? You dare defy God?"
The White Knight shook as he kneeled and put down his head. "Your majesty, please."
The White Queen interrupts. "Knight, look at me. You have one Queen and one Queen only. You are to devote yourself to me. How dare you look at another?"
The Knight looked back at the other side of the battlefield. The Black Queen was alone in the middle of the battlefield. There was nothing but a few pawns left, and the cowardly White King hid far behind her.
The White Knight had always followed the orders of his King. He was heartless, not that his wooden heart could feel anyways. So why now? Why did his heart burn? His heart hurt so bad he was on the verge of being incinerated.
The Knight fell to the ground in pain. He grabbed his chest and braced himself for his inevitable death.
The White King, staring down at his Knight, sat down and said, "You leave me no choice."
The Knight's eyes slowly closed as he lost consciousness. His mind drifted off and his life flashed through his mind.
In the beginning, he was neither born nor raised- he just existed. He was a cold and emotionless piece that moved according to his King and his God. Every other piece in his troops was the same. Everyone was to remain cold, less they wanted to be burned at the stake like all other evil would.
Each piece had a different path that they took in life. The pawns could only move in one direction, forward, and they were unable to turn back.The bishop and the rook could travel further, but they could not stray from their single straight path. The Queen and the Knight, however, were the most unpredictable.
Perhaps that is why their fates would change.
