Elemental Magic- The Beginner Mage

The room floods with students that rush to their seats within the classroom and soon the teacher walks in, he has a slight hunch in his back and some scars on his arms, his hair just beginning to gray on the sides of his head. He sees the chair and sighs.

He raises his hand and the chair contorts back to how it was then turns my way.

"You're leaking...a lot." he rubs the bridge of his nose. "you're that dragon kid, huh. No magic training whatsoever...geez they had to give me the hard one. Okay let's start with this, do you know how to sense magic power?"

"No sir."

He groans "damn, alright you are going to focus on this until you can feel mana coming off of it."

he summons an orb of light the size of a basketball and sends it to a seat in the back of the room "when you've got that come see me."

I walk to the back and see eyes are all on me, some glaring. I recognize a few of them from this morning when they tried to kill me but pay no attention to them, one freezes the ground in my path and it melts when I get close to it weirdly.

another tries to zap me but it disappears when it gets close.

"Stop trying class, with the amount of magic power he's leaking minor spells like those will never get through also he is a fire mage ice won't stay unless its a large amount, use your brains class.

I sit in my chair and stare at the orb of magic in front of me wondering how this works, do I touch it, do I listen to it, what do I do?

I see Hope smile at me while leaning on her table watching me just fail. She sits and closes her eyes and sits there almost like she's meditating.

What is she doing, is she giving me a hint? I relax in my chair and meditate while I try to focus on the orb and I feel it, the waves of mana it gives off, so this is magic. I open my eyes to find Mr. Reick standing over me.

"Looks like you figured it out. Now, feel the mana coming from your body and do all in your power to stop it from leaking."

This time I close my eyes and focus on myself and feel lots of mana coming off me so I try to pull it back in and slowly it shrinks back into my body. Power is all I can feel now this is probably why I ran out of magic earlier, now I feel like I could cast more spells then before without running out of magic.

"Not bad now grab the orb with magic, I know that the chair was you, now do the same to that orb." He looks to the class we're going to play a game class, I'll give you all permission to skip the rest of your classes today. Dragon you are going take this orb and suck the power out of it, and class your going to steal it from him and bring it back to me. The game ends when the orb is gone or in my hands. So either you figure out your magic or you fail, let the game begin." He tilts his head towards the door and I cast reflex action again and book it past everyone with the orb in tow and out the door.

"You have five minutes till I let everyone out!" Mr. Reick yells.

I run down the stairs and out into the garden where I hide behind a hedge and start absorbing the mana from the glowing basketball when I hear students come out through the door.

"I can sense the orb, he's close."

"Search the area he probably here in the garden"

"Hey isn't this the place he awakened?"

"yeah, it cracked the pavement and burned some plants."

"I saw the dragon form from the other side of the school, it was huge."

"Scary."

It kinda makes me mad that I sound like a monster.

"Wait is he really all that tough? He is hiding from us like he can't fight at all so he can't be all that."

"Hey, yeah your right, we can take him if he can't fight at all"

With a boosted morale they search harder then before, I pull the book that Mr. Hart gave me, and scim for a dragon spell but the only one I can find is called dragon's maul. I cast the spell and fire erupts from my hand and forms a claw around it, the flames pulse as if alive. I pour more power into it and watch as it grows.

"Hey there is some power growing over there in the hedges"

They shift their attention over to me and start preparing their spells, I ready my claw and prepare myself for a fight.

One jumps out behind me and tries to shock me but I react and smack him down with the claw, his friends follow up with jumping me from both sides and use earth to bind my feet while the other goes for the orb. I grab the orb with my claw and send it flying into the air above then bring my claw back down with full force knocking the third guy into the ground, the second launches himself into the air using a pillar of stone as a piston and grabs the orb. I get pissed and grow the claw to catch him and slam him down like the first two, the first one stands back up and in a flash of light he is standing next to the orb. I grab the ground and launch myself at him and kick him with both my legs. With the three of them out I take the orb and run cause I just made a lot of noise. I pass the burnt trees and cracked grounds and back into the school. Inside there are students already waiting for me. They all launch their attacks at me, I cast my shield spell and block half of them, the others land and knock me back into the garden. All I feel is pain scattered throughout my body, they all move to the outside and smirk.

"Well look at the high and mighty dragon on the ground gasping in pain." about 10 of them surround me with evil smiles on their faces. "Looks like all that power is just for show it's useless if you can't even control it."

The orb is still floating next to me, I stand up and grab it with my bare hand, it burns more than anything I've ever felt but I keep holding and start draining it again, the pain I feel is almost nothing compared to the anger I have. The orb shrinks to almost nothing and I release my anger that I've built up over the past two days, wings, tail, claws, and jaws form around my body.

I scream upward unleashing a pillar of fire into the sky then everything goes black.
