"Come inside and I'll wait with you sweetheart, I'm sure your mom will be here soon."

"Can we play snap." Julia giggled.

"Mmmm fine.. I think me and Stef are due a win." She joked, as the little girl shook her head. This was a normal thing to do. If a parent was a little late, she always waited inside the classroom with the child. The school was in the centre of the city, it was always busy around, so being late sometimes- was very understandable.

"Stef, Miss Grey said we can play snap while waiting for my mommy!!" Stef was the student teacher shadowing Meredith for a few months. They got along great, and Stef definitely made Meredith's job easier. She remembered when she was the one shadowing, she wanted Stef's experience to be just as positive. It was just a bonus they clicked right away.

"Oh really now.. you think you can beat me missy.." she narrowed her eyes making- Julia laugh. "Uh huh."

The three played the game that seemed to be the popular entertainment of this class group this week, for no longer than ten minutes, then there was a slight knock on the open door.

"Uncle Derek!!!!"

Meredith didn't recognise this man. She would definitely not forget seeing his face that's for sure. He was that kind of in-your-face attractive but also had the kind of adorable dork look going on. She didn't know what to say right away.

"Hi, I'm really sorry I'm late.. it's just my sister.. She and her husband couldn't make it and I came as soon as she called."

"That's okay, honestly.. we had some fun right Julia." Meredith laughed lightly.

Derek was stunned by how gorgeous his niece's teacher was. She looked so effortlessly perfect, the perfect skin, captivating eyes, a smile that could cure diseases. He realised he was staring when he cleared his throat. "Derek, I'm her uncle."

"Right." She smiled, blushing slightly. "Meredith."

"Meredith?" Julia asked, surprised. Which made them all laugh. Meredith put her finger up to her lips jokingly as if the idea of the child knowing her name was a big secret she had to keep.
Stef smirked minding her business, as she began packing up the stack of cards on the desk. Then Meredith noticed the logo on his shirt. "NYFD?" As if he wasn't hot enough, he had to be a firefighter too.

"Yeah he's a firefighter, so is my mom Miss Grey, they save so many people. My mom tells me about it!" Derek shook his head laughing lightly at his proud niece, who was head to toe a mini amelia.

"Wow that's incredible." She said to Julia, then looking to Derek. "That is amazing. Feel like I should say thank you for your service or something." Meredith laughed.

"Hey no thank you for teaching the brains of kids without teachers we'd have nothing." He said sincerely, which really made her feel warm.

Derek looked at her, he knew it was probably obvious, but it was impossible not to look at this woman. She's the kind- once your eyes find her, they'll never leave her. He cleared his throat for the second time. "So I better get going, thanks again for waiting back with her. It was nice meeting you." He smiled, reaching his hand out to her.

"You too Derek." She smiled. "And see you bright and early tomorrow missy." She scrunched her nose as the little girl smiled back at her. And then they were gone. And she felt like she could breathe again. He was an extreme presence in the room, to say the least.

"Mer!" Stef squealed, which made her jump.

"What oh my god do you want to give me a heart attack!"
