He barely remembers anything about his life before death. He remembers actually dying and what his death was like and he can remember some major events that happened in life, but aside from bits and pieces of seemingly unimportant things, he can't remember anything. (Kind of like how Link is in BoTW)
The things he can remember are:
> His mother's death
> How he died (duh)
> The fact that he was missing an eyeball when he died (it felt like it had been removed just before he was forced into the water)
> He had a best friend named Isaiah
(TRIGGER WARNING - SUICIDE AND SH)
!!!
> That same best friend had told him to "do yourself a favor and kill yourself" for a reason Ben can't remember
> He was a self harmer (cutting)
!!!
(Okay the rest are normal now)
> He was 12 years old when he died
> He vaguely remembers a boy named Tyler that he'd talk to occasionally - who he was and what role he had in Ben's life, he can't remember
> He got his cooking knowledge from his mother
> He was very close with his mother
> He was 6 years old when his mom died
> The only memories he has to associate with his father so far is the sound of yelling and smashing beer bottles
> He thinks his dad had some sort of involvement with his death - what it was in particular, he can't remember
> He really liked the Legend of Zelda
> He drew constantly and he's pretty sure that one of the things he'd wanted to be when (if) he grew up was an artist of some kind
> There were multiple people involved in his death, but he can't remember who they were or why they were there or even if he knew all of them or not. He remembers them having some sort of connection with his father, however
Occasionally, if a situation he's either witnessing or experiencing is similar to one he's had in life or if he sees or hears something that he'd seen or heard when he was alive, he'll have what he calls a "flashback," where he sort of disassociates from reality and sees a memory similar to the situation or sound or whatever right then and there. (The only other way I know how to describe this is kind of like a cutscene in a video game, where you'll be doing something, and then the cutscene happens, and then you're brought back and you start playing again. That was a shitty comparison, but you get the gist, right?)
Outside of his mind, Ben will drop whatever he's doing at the time and just stand there, unblinking, unmoving, it can look pretty creepy actually. If it's a strong or emotional memory, he might whimper or start to hyperventilate before coming back to reality.
