"MELODY"
I turned my head towards the voice. A woman with brown, untidy hair was running towards a little girl, standing beside me, with a furrowed, worried look on her face. Big, round eyes watched over her full of sadness, pain and concern.
A bloodstained scar reaching from the bottom of her right cheek, running towards the tip of the nose and ending above her left eye.
What was once a dress is now merely a dirt-stained piece of fabric, hanging from one of her shoulders like a discarded old towel. Part of the bottom has been torn off and the sleeves are worn away, leaving much of her skin exposed.
The girl had long, brown hair caught in a ponytail. On her left hand, she was holding a stuffed animal, which from the long, hanging ears I presumed it was a rabbit. Her clothes were full of blood and dirt, you barely could see the colours underneath.
The forest around us is littered with carnage, blood and wounded fighters. Red and black are the new colours of what I guess was once a harmonious, rich forest, which has now become the stage of a tragic war.
The air which would normally carry the sounds of a large waterfall, small rivers and nature's wildlife is now thick with the scent of death and decay, enough to destroy whatever courage is left in the survivors.
The women took the little girl's hand and dragged her with force towards what looked like a small spaceship.
"Sweetie, listen to me carefully," the woman spoke loudly, so her voice would have been heard over the noise of the battle. "You have to get inside this ship, it will send you away from here and you won't be in any danger. Do you understand me? "
Melody nodded, not trusting her voice to be heard over the battle sounds.
"Good. Now go. Know that I love you, I will always be with you." she said while kissing her forehead. Tears slipped from both their eyes, while she set, what I assume was her daughter, on the seat. They hugged tightly before she could go.
An explosion was heard not far from behind us, and she hit some bottoms. The red light that was on the left part of the ship changed to purple and the protective glass closed. Another explosion was heard, bigger than the last one. I tried to look at what happened, but the engine turned on, ready to take off, causing dust and dirt to rise from the ground, preventing me from finding out where the explosion came from.

I stood up, shaking, my face wet from the sweat.
Why is this happening to me?
The last thing I remember was the cries of a woman. And then I woke up.
I keep having those dreams - correction nightmares - for a long time now. Always the same. It starts with me in a forest, that looks like a battlefield, and that woman shows up and helps a little girl escape?
The weirdest thing is that she takes the girl and helps her into a spaceship, a small spaceship, kinda like a horizontal miniature of a rocket, and then she flies away, far from that place.
I don't understand the dream. It feels so real, yet I don't remember being in a situation like this. I mean, I would remember a battlefield. Right?
I tried to go back to sleep. The sound of the wind whistled outside. Not able to sleep because of the noise I went to close the window. I took a last pick outside. It was peaceful. I decided to sit there for a moment.
From this side of the building, I can see small houses with their lights on and the silhouettes of our neighbours walking past their windows. My house is the biggest in the village. Someone might say, my family, the Evans, are the wealthiest family in any town in a very big radius. Which makes me, most of the times, the centre of attention in my school.
It's not like I'm the most popular kid in class, just everybody knows me. This might be an advantage to another high-school girl, but for me is different.
I want my life to be normal, without any massive, life-changing events. I have two close friends, which I love with all my heart. I don't need anything or anyone else. They are always there for me. Even in the hardest of times.
It's hard to describe a complex person like Scarlett Williams, but the biggest two things to know are that she's exciting and dynamic. Of course, she's also smart, a little lazy and of course overprotective. Her excitement though, this is what she's pretty much known for. It's the reason we are the best of friends.
Our other friend is Marcus Winston. A lot can be assumed when you first see Marcus, like the whole geek-pack. Boy with glasses that hasn't many friends and knows everything. Well, you are not wrong. Scarlett and I are his only friends. I have known him from kindergarten and we have been hanging out since then. He is funny, honest and pretty shy.
There are things he knows that you wouldn't believe a 16, soon to be 17, year-old boy would know. He can be loud or bad-tempered occasionally, but I think that everyone has their downsides. At the thought of my two closest friends, I fell asleep on the windowsill, nightmare-free, wishing the next day won't hold any difficulties.

First chapter! Let me know what do you think. Also, something I didn't say before, almost every chapter on the book will be from Violet's pov like this one.
Have a nice day!
