11 - Debris

I've always liked science.

It helps me explain the world around me. How everything works, from the big machines in the construction site in my neighbourhood to the clock that's on my bedroom wall.

Now, when Chris decided to explain how we're going to Esmond, it hit me hard. Like a bomb that landed in front of my face. He called it a debris. A pretty name if you ask me.

Long story short, a debris is an ultra dimensional portal you can summon from everywhere in the universe to any destination you desire. Cool, right? Yeah, that's what I thought too. Except, it's created from destroyed matter. You heard me.

Destroyed matter that, scientifically speaking, can't. be. destroyed.

Every 10 year old knows that matter, under known or unknown circumstances, it can change its state. From solid to liquid to gas and vice versa. Apparently, there is another possibility. For the substance to not change, but flow as energy between places and create patterns.

Those patterns compose a debris, and they are made by the remains of a broken-down structure.

I stood frozen in front of a black door. No walls around the frame, just a piece of wood in the middle of the forest.

"Is that it?"

"I think." His lack of confidence didn't reassure me.

"Is it safe?"

"I'm not sure."

Great. Uncertainty. What a wonderful start.

Silence rose between us for the second time that day. We've been in the forest for almost an hour, and we spent every last minute of it awkwardly walking on a straight path leading deep in the woods. The only sounds were the breaking branches we stepped on.

The previous day, Chris looked tired and stressed. But at the moment we reached a section that was more crowded with trees he seemed more alive than ever. His eyes were shining from the overflowing adrenaline, and his body emitted energy. Like an invisible force possessed him and moved his body without the boy's will.

I could only assume it was the change of the environment. From the little town where I lived and the buildings to the nature and the fresh air. It was like he was connected somehow with everything around us.

"Should we knock...?"

"How'd I know? They don't cover the subject in school."

After our little conversation, I stepped forward and knocked on the door. He didn't do anything, so I intervened.

At first, nothing happened. Or at least I think nothing happened, but then a sound came from the general direction of the ill-fitting object. A mechanic one. Like someone decided to open a huge, metallic lock after years of being left to rust.

And then it stopped.

I kept staring at it, but my only conclusion was that I'm not as good in 'find the differences' as I thought. It took me more than it should, to understand what had changed.

What happened is a doorknob appeared out of nowhere. As I looked at it again I ended up realizing it wasn't there before. Which would mean only one thing.

Invitation.

I just wish it's a welcome one.

Chris must have thought the same thing, because he walked past me, more determined than before, turned the doorknob and opened the door.

"Here goes nothing." He said and he disappeared. I took a deep breath and followed him.

Pure white was the only thing I could see.

Literally.

Everything around us was snowy white, except our belongings. Basically, we entered a downgraded TARDIS, but with more furniture.

I looked behind me, waiting to see an opening, but I faced a huge bookcase. The only difference; every book was unique. Colours, sizes, font type of the titles. All different from the other. Even the material of the cover varied in some cases.

My eyes immediately fell on a black one, the biggest on the shelf on my height. The title read;

'Dragons and the beginning of our existence'

I leaned closer to take a better look. As I did the colour of the cover starting changing. From this distance, it shimmered a royal blue. It reminded me the tail of a mermaid, only without the fish scales. ( a/n: like I've seen a mermaid before...)

Chris had moved from beside me and admired the rest of the room. His gaze was fixed on the middle, where a huge machine rose to the top. Wires went out of it, connecting it with the walls and possibly other machines. But the majority led to an opening that I didn't see before because it was somehow elevated.

Two and a half meters from the floor, there was a balcony. It took up the entire wall.

"Lost?"

I jumped. I looked around me for the sudden male voice. I knew it wasn't Chris so someone else must have entered the room when I wasn't looking.

I spotted the intruder on my left. A dark silhouette was laying on the metallic railing of the staircase that led upstairs.

How isn't he falling over?

Not the time to talk about that. I answered Maze in my head.

"Uhm... Who are you?" Chris found the courage to ask, taking a step closer to me.

"Right. Where are my manners," he stood up and approached us. After he examined both of us he continued "My name is Felix. I... Ehm... Live here? Yeah, I live here. This is my home!"

As he mentioned his name he bowed and flashed us a big grin. At first, when I heard his voice I didn't imagine anything like the boy I had in front of me.

To begin with he seemed a lot younger. Brown, curly hair that fell in his face with a nice wave, sincere grey eyes anyone would instantly fall in love with, tall, quite muscular, with the perfect angles on his face. The more I saw him the more I was convinced he was just perfect. I couldn't find anything wrong with him.

Even his clothes matched his body type. He wore a green cyan oversized sweater, with black fitting jeans. His shoes, cherry-purple converse, matching perfectly with the entire outfit.

"And who are you?"

YES!!!
FINALLY ANOTHER CHAPTER.
My Chuck, school is hell, I liked it better when we were in quarantine and stressed out only about Supernatural and Lucifer.

Sooo... New character. I think I said 'perfect' at some point. Well... He is my favourite character, and you can't blame me. You'll hopefully see what I mean in upcoming chapters.

Enjoy you rest of the day! Bye! ت
