5 - This is why I don't socialize

My body hurt all over. Pain radiated through my legs, my arms, even the tips of my fingers. But nothing hurt as much as my head. Surely this pain would stop soon.

I opened my eyes, only to close them soon after because of the bright light that blinded me.

I paused for a brief moment, not doing anything, wishing the pain would fade away. I took a deep breath, knowing it would help. I tried my hardest to concentrate on my surroundings, while still allowing my body to heal.

The fact that I was not able to see or move my hands, sharpened my other senses. I could now smell the fresh air that illuminated from the atmosphere around me. The weather was windy, but the sun was still warm as it hit my bare legs. I could hear the leaves dance to the wind and brush against the branches of the trees with every little breeze.

Soon enough something else came to my mind, I never remembered coming here. My last recall was from my second accident in The Mirror Maze, back home. I couldn't help, but feel frightened by the idea of something happening in there while I was unconscious. Someone must have taken me from inside the maze and brought me here in the open.

Unless this is a dream.

My train of thoughts was interrupted by another sound that wasn't there before.  Someone or something smashed the perfectly smooth surface of the grass, around me. The steps kept getting louder as they were getting even closer to where I was laying down.

I opened my eyes, slower this time. Everything was a big white blur, until the one that had been approaching me, get in the way of my face and the sun. To tell you the truth, I couldn't be more grateful.

"Rise and shine, beautiful." My vision was coming back to normal. Now I could see a young boy standing a few feet next to me. He extended his hand for me to take it, so I gladly took the offer. To my surprise, I wasn't unable to move like I was before, but my limps we're a little numb and my head ached.

"Thanks" I smiled to him with closed eyes and a groan, as the pain didn't want to leave. He must have realized that I wasn't fully recovered yet so he came closer to help me stand on my legs without falling by accident. The dizziness didn't seem to fade out.

My previous deductions seemed to be true. Behind us, there were trees. Hundreds of them scattered through an endless forest of green and brown. In front of us, a small cabin awaited us. My eyes immediately landed on the rooftop. Smoke from the chimney was creating a small grey cloud that left the house and soon enough blended with the azure sky. In front of the house, there was a large area with a variety of exotic plants. Different colours and shapes of flowers were growing across the whole garden. Red, yellow and orange petals were visible between the series of green, weird-shaped leaves.

A wave of realization hit me hard, as I admired the setting in front of me.

"Where exactly am I?" It was quite obvious that I was in the middle of a farmhouse, but still, I didn't know exactly where or why I was here.

"I will explain everything after we reach the house. Just trust me." I stopped walking and stepped away from him. His grip on my hand loosened.

“No! How can I trust you? I don’t even know you!” I looked back at him. His gaze scanned the area around us like he was searching for something. Who is he? And what does he want from me?

“Believe me you already know who I am, Violet.” His eyes met mine. I could see the thoughts running behind them, wondering what his next step would be. “You made me when you needed me the most. You even gave me a name.” What is he talking about?

He started getting closer to me, one little step at a time. Something at his presence made me stay still on my spot. I couldn’t step back. I needed to know what he wanted and if be closer to each other is the key, then I’m willing to do it. I looked down at my feet, waiting for the inevitable. He walked behind me, and spoke in my ear, his breath sending shivers down my body. “Maze”

I spun on my heels to face him. That was impossible.

“How do you know that name?”

"You always address me with that name. Your inner voice." I never told anyone about that. Neither my parents nor my friends. When we first talk, it was nice like I had someone that understood me all the time. I smiled at the thought but came back to reality sort after, only to see Maze walk towards the house.

I didn't want to go after him but I had no choice. I had no idea where I was and I wasn't sure for how long I could walk before I collapse on the ground. Again.

When I finally reached the beautiful garden that decorated the front of the house, I searched for the young boy.

Where the hell is he?

"I knew you wouldn't give up." I turned to the voice on my left. "There is something about you that many can't explain."

"And what's that?" I questioned.

"You see it's not so common for people to have a decent talk with their inner voices face to face. In fact, I think you are the only one that can do that."

"And how do you know. You are trapped inside my head. Whatever I know you know."

"Touché. But, the point is you are special. And that's because you- how do I put this- you are not exactly from this world." I looked at him, confusion spread on my face.

"Let me tell you a story"

Ok!
Cliffhanger. But a least the chapter is not short like the previous one.

I love Maze anyone else? He just has a weirdly nice vibe. I don't know...
