Benji P.O.V. -
The sky is dark. The afternoon storm clouds are rolling in outside of my four story mansion. I love the rain, it's the best reading weather. Right now I am at the best part of this book, the part where the boy and the girl kiss for the first time. I guess you could say I am a hopeless romantic. I haven't had very many girlfriends, and all of the ones I have had were either in it for my money or they were really nerdy, and frankly quite ugly. But sadly, despite all the evil ugly girls I have dated, I've never had my first kiss.
The rain started to fall as I got out of bed. I sat up and put on my glasses before I scurried over to the window cill to read some more. I don't have many friends, but the ones I do have say that I'm such a nerd just because I read for fun and have maintained a 4.0 grade average basically my whole life.
Just as I was about to open the book, there was a knock at my door.
"Come in," I called out.
The door opened revealing my dad. He walked in and sat down on my bed looking at me expectantly.
"Benji," he started, "You have been wearing that sweatshirt for four days now, and you haven't come out of your cave for almost a week. What's going on?"
I sighed and set the book down.
"It's summer dad, what do you expect?"
"I expect you to go outside, son! Make some friends, maybe even make a special friend." he said as he wiggled his big bushy eyebrows at me.
"Oh jeez dad, come on. I have my books and that's all I need. Plus, you know I don't have the best luck with the ladies."
"Well then maybe the ladies aren't for you." he said.
"Oh my god, dad shut up!" I giggled, tossing a throw pillow at his face.
He put his hands up as if to show he surrenders, and laughed out one of his big hearty laughs. I rolled my eyes as he backed out of my room and out the door.
"Love you, bud." he said before he closed the door.
Maybe he was right. Not about the liking dudes part, but about the getting outside and making friends part. I guess it wouldn't hurt to look into getting a job. If I find a good job, it could look really good on my college application. I really want to get into Harvard, so senior year has to be perfect. I suppose that could start with a good job.

One week later I finally found a job that I think I am a good fit for. It was more of an internship than a job, and part of it is getting a free ride to a three day business trip. There were only two spots open for the internship, one is suited for more of the smart businessman type, and the other was suited more for an artistic person who is good with technology and photography. Obviously I applied for the more academic one.
The internship was for the company Bimmal Industries. They wanted two high school students who wouldn't mind helping them start up their business. The work week was Monday through Friday every week, which doesn't bother me since I have nothing better to do.
Just then my phone started ringing showing an unknown number was calling. I figured it was just a prank call, but when I answered, a woman's voice came over the phone.
" Benji Krol?" she asked.
" Um, that's me... who's calling?"
"Oh wonderful! This is Alice from Bimmal Industries. We got your application and looked over it, and we would absolutely love to have you fill the academic slot of our summer internship!" she said, her voice lined with excitement.
"Wow, uh, I'd love to! Thank you so much for this opportunity, I won't let you down." I said, trying not to show how thrilled I was.
"Okay great! I will send you an email about everything you need to know. See you soon!" Alice said before she ended the call.
Wow, looks like this summer may be more eventful than I originally thought!
