Jorge P.O.V.
It's been two weeks since the first day of the internship. Benji and I have been becoming really good friends. Boy, was he sweet. Everyday we have the same schedule. Work, work, work, talk, talk, work, lunch, work, work, talk, talk, get yelled at for not working, work, and the worst part of the day, go home. Benji and I always eat lunch together in one or the others cubical. Even though we could eat in the lounge, we don't want anyone else interrupting our time. Except for Alice of course. We let her eat with us when she isn't busy running around to meetings and such.
"Hey, whatcha workin on?" Benji said peeking over the wall of his cubicle.
"Oh, um, I am totally not watching cat videos."
"And you didn't invite me?" he said, pretending to take offence.
He disappeared briefly, and came around to the entrance of my cube. My cube is large, but it's not exactly set up for two people. There is only one chair, and it's pretty small. Noticing this, Benji smirked and much to my surprise sat right on my lap.
"Benji, you are so heavy though," I complained, "Get up."
He made a pouty face at me and stood up. I also took a standing position and pointed at the chair.
"Okay, sit," I said.
He took my orders and after he was seated, I plopped down onto his lap. After all, I am much smaller than he is.
We sat there watching cat videos, and laughing so much that we didn't even realize Alice had walked in.
"Helloooo, I've been standing here for like ten minutes watching you guys cuddle," she said.
Benji and I quickly jumped off of each other, me blushing and Benji fidgeting with his fingers.
"We most certainly were not cuddling," Benji grumbled out.
"Well this picture tells me a bit of a different story," Alice said, waving her phone in front of our faces.
I didn't even realize that I had wrapped my arms around his neck. It honestly kinda did look like we were cuddling in the picture. Hmm.
"What do you want anyway?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"Right," she started,"I need you to go out and take some pictures for me."
"Okay, of what?" I asked.
"Anything you want. I want to see what your work is like," she explained.
"Uh, alright," I said hesitantly.
Alice started to walk out, but turned around and said, "And bring Benji with you."
And with that, she shut the door leaving Benji and I alone again.
"So, where should we go?" he asked.
"Not far from here is a flower field, we could go there," I suggested.
"Sounds like a plan," he said.
I grabbed my camera and we walked out the door.
Once we got into my car, I asked Benji what music he wanted to listen to, and he told me he wanted to hear my music. So, I turned on my summer playlist. He would sing along to some songs and just listen to others while I sang along. The windows were down, wind blowing through the car. His fluffy hair was blowing in the wind making him look even cuter than usual. The only thing I don't like about Benji is that I think I'm falling in love with him. I don't even know if he likes guys, let alone would like me too.
Just down the road, we could see the flower field. It was so beautiful. Every color of flower was there, creating a rainbow of flowery beauty. I looked over to Benji who was staring at me for no apparent reason. How long has he been doing that?
"This is so wonderful, Jorge. How did you find this place?"
"Come on, I do photography. I know where all the secret gems of this town are," I said.
We jumped out of the car, eager to start taking pictures.
We walked to the middle of the field taking in the sweet aroma that surrounded us.
"Benji?"
"Yeah?" he responded.
"Can I take pictures of you?"
"Oh my gosh, YES!" he exclaimed.
Once I found the perfect place for him to pose, I motioned for him to sit down.
"Okay, now put one of your arms over your head, and look to your right," I called out.
I snapped a few pictures from many different angles. Damn was he hot, and very photogenic might I add.
I made him do a few more poses until my camera was filled to the brim with photos of Benji. I waved him over to come look at them with me. He was standing behind me, and I could feel his warm breath on the back of my neck. I felt myself lean into him, resting my head on his shoulder.
"Oh my gosh, Jey! These are absolutely amazing!" he said cheerily.
"Jey?" I asked, turning around to face him.
"Yeah, it's your new nickname!" he explained.
"I love it," I smiled up at him.
We stood there for a while. Both of us getting lost in each others eyes. Do friends look at each other like this? Why do I feel like this could be something more than a friendship? We finally broke eye contact as he pulled me into his chest for a hug. I was a bit startled by this, making me tense under his arms. But I soon relaxed when I heard his honey-like voice drip into my ears.
"Thank you," he whispered.
"For what?" I asked, confused.
"For being my friend."
My heart sank. Friend. Right. I knew he didn't like me back. God, what an idiot. I become friends with a cute guy who treats me well, and I automatically think we are something more.
"Of course, Benji. You are a pretty awesome co-worker if I do say so myself," I said solemnly. He didn't seem to notice my sad tone though.
"What do you say we head back?" he asked.
"Sure," I responded with a weak smile.
We started back to the car on the little path. The back of Benji's hand kept brushing mine, sending a small shiver through my body. I almost picked up his hand, until he stopped abruptly and crouched down gathering a small bouquet of pink roses in his hands.
We arrived at the car minutes later. I hopped in the driver's seat and started to turn the car on after Benji got in.
Just as I was about to start driving, Benji said, "Wait!"
"Whats up?" I asked, obviously confused.
"I have something for you," he said. Was that a light blush forming on his cheeks? I ignored it trying not to get my hopes up.
He reached his hand with the flowers out to me.
"Here," he said, "they remind me of you! Soft, sweet, pretty, and good smelling," he said shyly.
"Awe! Benjamin, how sweet of you!" I said grabbing them from him.
"Here," he said, taking one flower out of the bouquet.
He softly placed it behind my ear, so that the flower was resting at the top of my ear, peaking out of my big fluffy curls.
"Perfect," he said smiling.
And with that, we drove back to work.
