Benji P.O.V.
Today is my first day of the internship. In the email I was sent, it said I had to wear business casual, which sadly doesn't include sweats. I pushed the heavy covers off my bed and felt around for my glasses. As I got out of bed, I realized that it was already 8am. In a rush, I ran around my room trying to find an outfit. I finally settled on a black button up, a pair of jeans, and my Doc Martens. I quickly fluffed up my chestnut hair and was running out the door.
The traffic wasn't too bad, but I still ended up getting there fifteen minutes late. God, Benji, any other day to be late and you chose today. When I pulled into the parking lot, I was greeted by a large building with tons of windows and a large Bimmal Industries sign near the doors. I looked up at the building and noticed someone standing in the window. He had a full head of bouncy dirty blonde curls, and a pale completion. He looked at me and smiled a full toothed smile that made me smile. I waved up at him still smiling. After he waved back, I entered the building and was greeted by a security guard.
"Well hello there young man, you must be Benjamin."
"Oh uh, it's Benji actually." I explained.
"Benji," he confirmed, "take the stairs up to the third floor. Then you will take a left and you'll see room 302. There you can meet the other intern and wait for Alice to come talk with you."
"Awesome, thanks," I said.
I started up the stairs and stopped on the third floor. I turned to the left and right there I saw room 302, just like the guard said I would.
Upon entering the room, I was met with a very sweet smell, maybe cinnamon? Right in front of me was the pale boy from the window. He turned around, and smiled his big sweet smile.
"Hi I'm-" I started, but got cut off by the boy.
"Benjamin." he said, walking closer, the smell of cinnamon growing stronger. I hated being called Benjamin ever since my first girlfriend told me that the name turned her on. It grossed me out. But hearing the way it sounded coming out of his mouth sent chills down my spine.
"Benji, actually." I breathed out.
"Well Benji, I think I will call you Benjamin just because I can tell you don't like it." he said, a small smirk dancing on his lips. "My name is Jorge. What made you want to apply for this?"
I couldn't stop staring at his small porcelain face. I didn't even realize I was staring until he started obnoxiously waving his hand in front of my face.
"Helloooo. Benjamin, you didn't die, did you? Did you hear my question?"
Just as I was about to answer him, the door swung open revealing a tall red haired girl. She had freckles scattered here and there, and plump red lips. Not my type, but very pretty.
"Hi! I'm Alice, the manager," she said, excitedly.
THAT was Alice?? I thought she was going to be some middle aged looking business woman. This girl looked to be about 20, if not younger.
"Golly, you boys are handsome!" I heard Jorge giggle at this statement. "Lets see. Jorge, you are the artistic one, yes?"
"Yes indeed." he responded.
"Good. So that means you sir are the smarty pants." Alice teased. Normally I would be upset at a nickname like that, but coming out of Alice's mouth, it made me smile. What is up with all the people at this place making me smile so much?
"Alright, now follow me boys. Tour time!" she said, clapping her hands together.
We exited the room and went down to the first floor. The security guard was standing by the door.
"Yoohoo, Ted! I would like you to meet our new interns. This is Benji, right?" she said motioning towards me. I nodded in response. "And this is Jorge!" Jorge smiled and waved at Ted.
"Howdy, boys." Ted responded with a small, simple smile on his big round face.
As we continued the tour, I kept noticing Jorge sneak glances at me. I pretended not to notice this, but it got me wondering. Was he checking me out? Or is this just how he gets to know people?
We were only fifteen minutes into the tour, and I could already tell I wanted to be friends with the both of them. Alice was quick to crack a joke, and Jorge was just such a sweet dude.
We finally reached my favorite room so far on the tour. The library.
"Oh my gosh, look at all these books!!" I squeaked out.
"Calm down nerd," Alice chuckled, "these are all books about businessy things."
I frowned as the news set in. How boring! A library with no books about love and romance? What a waste of space.
"Is Benjamin sad?" Jorge teased.
"Leave me alone." I fake pouted trying to hold back a laugh.
"Oh come on, you are totally devastated!" he joked.
"Guys, you can flirt later, I'm trying to give y'all a tour." Alice said.
Flirting? But I'm straight.
Blushing, Jorge said, "It's not like that, Alice. Besides, we just met like an hour ago."
"Whatever you say." Alice said, letting out a small laugh.
Once we arrived at the work room, Alice introduced us to all her other co-workers. After shaking hands with about 15 old ladies, we finally got to our cubicles. They were set up in a small glass room divided in half. One half for Jorge and one half for me.
"Alrighty! So you must be wondering why I haven't told you guys what you are going to be doing all summer. I wanted to build suspense. Did it work?" Alice asked, making a goofy face at us.
Laughing, I said, "I am dying to know."
"So, Benji you are going to be advertising for the company, keeping track of what money we have earned, and how much we are spending." she explained.
"Sounds awesome," I said.
"And Jorge," Alice started, "You will be creating the ads, taking photos for the website, and designing the website."
"I absolutely cannot wait!" Jorge said.
"So, I have a meeting in a few minutes. You two can get to know each other, decorate your space, whatever. Your real work will start tomorrow."
Once Alice left, Jorge and I talked for a really long time. Just telling one another about our lives and such. A few times we would get distracted by Mildred, one of the older ladies in the cube outside of our little glass room. Her denchers kept falling out, and it would set us into a laughing fit. I was looking forward to this being my life for the next three months.
