Chapter 42

"Are you really doing this?" Haechan asks Jaemin, staring at Jiho calmly talking to Jeno by the bench at the park. Mark told them to hang out before going home, and Jaemin figured out that this was the right time to sort out his thoughts, about you and his relationship with Jeno. 

You are important to him, but he couldn't lose Jeno as his best friend. He is scared that if he continues doing this, he'll cross the line him and Jeno made, although his friend forgot about the line, he didn't mind. Their friendship is too precious for him.

Your naivety is killing him slowly, if it wasn't for Jeno kissing you or confessing his feelings, you will stay clueless for who knows how long. But little did he know, that I was hard for you too. You are too confused by what's happening. Your dad arriving suddenly, Jeno, and him.

"Jaemin-ah, Jiho is within your reach already. How come--" Haechan was cutted off when Jaemin faced him, "Because I love Jeno too much, that I can't risk our friendship again." He sighed, "I don't even know if she feels the same way,"

There, he said it. He already likes you, but he didn't want you to know. He doesn't want anyone to know, except your best friend. Cliche, right? The more you hate, the more you love. The fucking sentence just went to Jaemin real hard. He liked seeing you smiling, but he liked it more when you're looking at him. 

He hated seeing you cry about your dad. His heart is practically suffering now. He likes you, but his hesitations were stopping him. He's scared that he'll be rejected, he's scared to experience the same shit before. He's scared that even thinking about crossing the damn line is making his mind go haywire. ( Cliche? I know right lol) 

"Then what? You'll act hostile to her again? If yes, you're fucking stupid." Haechan spat, clearly annoyed by the fact Jaemin won't do anything. "Not that, I'll act as if nothing changed. I just have to keep distance from her, because I might do something else that is not good."

"And that is?"Haechan questions, while Jaemin stared at you again, "Steal her, away from the one who liked her first. And I don't want that to happen again."

Of course Jeno was the one who liked you first, but Jaemin's heart said 'fuck it, I like Jiho too' and decided to fuck with his mind. He vividly remembered what Jeno said when you were gone for lunch with your dad and cousin.

"Jaemin, do you like Jiho?" Jeno asked him, and it made him nervous. He wanted to say yes, but he knows what will happen. He wanted to admit that he likes you, how much he wants you to be beside him at all times. But that means putting their friendship on the line.

Jaemin kept his facade at looked weirdly at Jeno, "Are you crazy? Why would I like her if I know you do?" he reasoned, trying to sound as normal as possible. 

"That's what you said a year ago, when Kyungri was here."

Kyungri, that name brings back so much memory. That girl was the reason why Jaemin almost lost himself. He frowned, "Don't mention her name, you prick." Even if Jaemin was over her, he still hated to hear her name. He didn't want to remember how wasted he was when she broke up with him. 

And unfortunately, it's as if the whole love triangle bullshit came back. Jaemin won Kyungri's heart, and it left Jeno heartbroken, knowing that his love wasn't enough to make the girl pick his best friend over him.

Jeno sighed, "I'm just asking, if you like Jiho too." What's the use of asking him? Jeno can basically hearts in Jaemin's eyes whenever Jiho was in front or just plain near him. But he wanted to ask Jaemin himself, to see if he'll lie or admit it.

Jaemin grinned, "Jiho isn't my type, you can have her." You're a liar, Na Jaemin.

Jeno didn't have it, but chose to agree because he didn't want any awkwardness between him and his friend, "But even if you like Jiho, I won't be mad. We'll just see who Jiho likes more."

Jeno left when he said that, leaving Jaemin alone is the classroom with a mind full of thoughts, he felt uncomfortable knowing that Jeno doesn't trust him when it comes to his feeling for you. This whole liking you thing is making them crazy, but of course you're too clueless to know.

"Bye, see you tomorrow." you bid goodbye to Haechan before facing Jeno, with Jaemin beside him, "Are you guys taking me home?" you ask them, but Jaemin was quick to respond, "You guys can go, I still have errands to do. Bye." he muttered before running down the street. You stared at him with a slight frown, Jeno saw that and tried to catch your attention, "Jiho-ya, let's go?"

But you didn't answer and kept thinking, did I do something again? "Jaemin seems pretty distant these days, don't you think? Or am I the only one who can notice?"

He's distancing himself from you, to prevent any misunderstandings.

Jeno already knew, that his best friend is winning again, and he's about to get himself heartbroken once again.
