Chapter Eight

~~~~~ Kylie and Adriana - Mother Daughter Bonding Time ~~~~~
"Why in the lord's name did you just give her the ring back? Are you mad?" Adriana knew something was wrong when she saw her daughter behind her door this late in the night. And even though she was thrilled to see her, Adriana knew that this was no ordinary visit.
She was prepared for some yelling and some water works mostly on her part. She expected to be confronted for her past decisions. She was prepared for whatever Kylie had to say. However nothing could prepare her for what Kylie had to tell her. Adriana was furious.
"Kylie Balthazar I did not raise you to be a quitter! You are a freaking Balthazar for crying out loud! I know, I know I didn't always raise you right, and mostly that was my fault for letting your dad do everything he did, but that does not give you any reason to be this... this... stupid." Adriana got up and put her hands in the air not believing that her daughter was telling her such things. She paced back and forth not really sure what to say. Nothing came remotely close to expressing everything she had to say. There was just no way Kylie did such thing.
"You don't understand, I-." Kylie groaned as her mother interrupted her yet again. She sunk deeper into the couch and put her chin on her knees. She had only been in her old home for a few minutes and her mom was already going off on her. Kylie simply buried her face deeper in her knees and hugged her legs. She didn't even have time to tell her everything she wanted to tell her before her mother started judging and screaming at her.
Kylie had been hoping Adriana would be understanding and give her a cup of well needed coffee with milk, but instead she found herself with a mother from hell. Or so that's how Kylie saw this version of her mother at least. Which if Kylie thought about it, she had never seen this version of her mother. She was usually never this outspoken. She was reserved and never judged her before. Kylie didn't know whether to be proud or not.
"No you're right I don't understand. You have been through hell and back for this girl for months now. You have had to go through things that no teenage girl should go through. You have had it bad for some time now, and when the universe decides to finally revolve for you again you give the love of your life, you, my daughter give her the back ring back, why? Why would you do that Kylie?" Adriana stopped pacing and looked at her daughter.
Adriana saw how much Kylie had aged since the last time she saw her step out of her house. She saw the bags under her eyes and the deep sadness in them. She saw that her skin was pale and not glowing like it always was. Kylie wasn't the same little girl Adriana knew.
Adriana stopped and also wondered if she was referring to herself in her speech as well. It wasn't rational for her to react this way.
Things with Amy were not going so well, at least Adriana thought as much. Amy was young and wild. Adriana was older and didn't really know not how to keep up with the girl's pace. There had been so many arguments due to their age that Adriana wondered how Amy still came around to sort her, extremely complicated, life out.
"Come on Kylie what's the matter? You can't just quit on you guys that easily." Adriana went back to the couch and put her arm around her daughter. She felt Kylie get tensed and even flinch at contact. Adriana knew it would be hard to get her daughter back but she did not expect it to hit her as hard as it did that Kylie would be so tense to be near her. It reminded her of all the things she did wrong and no matter what she did or said she couldn't fix what had been done to their relationship.
Amy would know how to fix this. She always knew what to say and do in situations like this. Amy had gotten Kylie to say more than good morning or bye which Adriana was more thankful for. If Amy wouldn't have stepped in Kylie wouldn't be here talking about her life and seeking advice. But Amy wasn't here this time to make things better.
