Chapter one
~~~~~ Kylie - It Was All a Lost Dream ~~~~~
It had been a few months ago that if you were to approach the girl with the single orange rose in her hand, she would have told you how happy she was. She would have invited you for a cup of coffee and try to express her happiness with words that couldn't exactly match how wonderful she felt at the time. She couldn't explain this to you because she couldn't even explain it to herself. She had lived the best months of her existence and it was due to a certain Honduran girl with adorable dimples and the reason behind some of her infinite sleepless nights.
If you were to approach her now and ask how she is doing, you might not get the huge smile she once displayed for everyone to see. If you were to see her in the street you might notice that the light in her eyes is almost completely gone and also the smile that some say could light the world. She might nod her head out of respect but don't expect that coffee invitation. Don't take it personally; she has gone through a lot these last couple of months.
"How are you doing dear?" Kylie was asked yet again. She had been lost in her own thoughts so she was startled when realizing that she was addressed. She looked at the nurse and nodded not wanting to chat, but since she didn't want to seem disrespectful, she simply turned to the woman and forced a small smile. She had mastered the fake smile many times before but this smile made her heart hurt. It took so much energy to express such gesture these days, even if they were all just fake.
"Well considering we almost lost her last week, she's doing much better today." With the news she had received Kylie's eyes lit up and the color slowly came back to her cheeks as a genuine smile came upon her face. This was the first good news she had received in a while. It had been days since the nurses had given her a good diagnostic on the girl's condition.
"Thanks." She said to the nurses who she had addressed numerous times as she walked the long corridors of the hospital. The nurses smiled happily and said their farewells returning to work and sending a few prayers to the heavens for the girl in room 1582a.
With the good news Kylie grasped the orange rose in her hand and let out a deep breath. When waking up today, she knew it was going to be a good day. The sun was shining and finally out of the dark rainy clouds. The birds were singing their beautiful melodies again by her window. It seemed as if everything was returning to normal.
One nurse in particular, watched from afar as Kylie took deep breaths and wiped the sadness off her face. The nurse had never seen anyone compose themselves so quickly and successfully, as the girl who she had given birth to. It wasn't that long ago when she saw this particular girl stand up for her and yet suffer the devastating consequences for doing such brave thing. Yes, her little girl was brave indeed, and much to her amazement, her daughter was not that little anymore. Adriana puts the clipboard down and approaches her daughter.
"Did you eat before coming here? You know Alex would be on your case if you are not taking care of yourself." Adriana looked through the window and saw the girl lying on her back with her eyes closed. She had met the girl once before and saw the way Alexandria looked at her daughter. It had sparked an interest in Adriana to address it, but she had no communication with Kyle at the time so there was no way to be certain.
"She loves you and I'm willing to bet that she would prefer if you eat rather then disappear off the face of the earth." Both women laughed. The words came naturally. It had never crossed Adriana's mind that she would be saying such things to her daughter considering that her parents taught her to reject the homosexual lifestyle. But how could she judge her daughter if even Adriana herself had also began to develop feelings for a certain female colleague herself?
