'Jane the Virgin' Star Alec Jones Found Dead in Los Angeles Hotel Room

Sources close to Jones said that he had just gotten out of rehab four days before his death.

Alec Jones, who played Michael Cordero Jr. in the CW hit show "Jane the Virgin," was found dead in his Los Angeles, California, hotel room this weekend, authorities said. He was 25.

The actor had checked into Hilton Head Hotel on March 13 after just getting out of rehab, according to police.

When nobody saw the actor leaves his room in over 48 hours, the hotel staff went to his hotel room and found his body.

Los Angeles Chief Coroner Layla Jackson said the actor had been dead for several hours when his body was discovered.

"Mr. Jones was found deceased in his room at approximately noon today," Jackson said at a news conference this evening.

Acting Los Angeles Police Chief Ryan Cameron said the evidence shows Jones was last seen returning to his room alone late Friday night after being seen earlier in the day with fiancé, Karson Stan.

Although the cause of death is not yet known, police have ruled out foul play. Police said they believe he was alone when he died. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

"We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," a representative for the actor said in a statement to the New York Times.

For the past 9 years, Jones dated singer-songwriter Karson Stan. While Stan posted a photo three months ago stating that they were taking a break, it seemed as if they had gotten back together after they posted photos of each other two days before his death.

"We ask that everyone kindly respect Karson's privacy during this devastating time," a representative for Stan said in a statement today.

Jones has played "Jane the Virgin" character Michael Cordero Jr. since the show debuted in 2014.

Struggle With Drugs

Sources close to Jones have explained that the actor had been dealing with a serious amount of issues throughout his life, including drug abuse.

The life-long battle with substance abuse began when Jones was only 15 years old as it allowed him to escape from the constant fighting of his parents. It has been stated by sources that his fiancé, also known as Karson Stan, finally had enough of his obsession with drugs and decided that they needed to take a break so he could get help or else they would be over for good.

Three months ago, after Stan gave Jones the ultimatum, the actor decided to give rehab a shot. He was surprisingly let out of the center early as employees believed that he would be okay.

While it has yet to be confirmed, many people believe that the cause of death for Jones is an overdose. This means that unfortunately, going to rehab did nothing for him as it only took him four days of being out for his life to be taken by drugs.

Karson Stan has yet to comment on the death of her fiancé.
