It still haunted me that I walked away from Channing. I was falling in love with him and if he truly loved Malaysia, I wasn't about to destroy his happiness. About a week after his wedding, his mother called me. Ms. Margret was to die for. She was extremely sweet and loved her son more than anything. Over the years of growing up friends with Channing, her and I became very close.
"Hello, Jordynn speaking," I answered not looking at my phone. I was working and had a lot to do to get ready for my opening.
"Hey, Rosebud," she said. Rosebud was the nickname she gave me when I was like ten. She said every time she saw me I was blooming like a rosebud.
"Hey, Mama M. How are you?" I asked her. It was so good to hear her voice.
"I'm fabulous, darling. It's Channing I'm calling about."
"How was the wedding?" I asked her.
"He called it off, Jordynn. He said he couldn't do it."
I was shocked, but I was relieved all the same. I knew he wouldn't go through with it though.
"Why?" I asked her.
"Nobody knows. All he does is work now. I haven't spoken to him since he called off the wedding. Has he contacted you?"
"No ma'am. I haven't talked to him since three days before the wedding."
"Rosebud, why did he call off the wedding? I know you know the truth. You're his best friend. He trusts you with his life. So, I know you know why he did it."
I couldn't lie to her. "Channing and I had a fight because Malaysia wanted him to choose a life with or without me. He chose without me, and now he's paying for it. He was never gonna be happy with Malaysia. But I walked away. Don't get me wrong, Mama, I love Channing very much, and I never wanted to leave him, but I wasn't gonna take the chance with his happiness."
"I just don't understand that boy. He asked me what he should do. I told him that he had the best girl in the world, but he wouldn't listen to me. I'm just glad to know he didn't marry Malaysia."
I laughed because I knew she was for real. "Ma, if you hear from Channing, please tell him I'll always choose him?"
I could tell she was smiling. "I sure will, Rosebud. I gotta go. I'll call you soon. Okay?"
"Yes, ma'am," I told her and then we hung up.
For months, I craved the touch of Channing. It was beginning to drive me crazy. So, what did I do? I got back with Nathan. Nathan and I never really ended things, but I limited the time we spent when I was involved with Channing. Casual sex wasn't my thing anyways. I've only had sex with two people: Channing and Nathan. It was always one or the other. Channing and I lost our virginity to each other. I guess that's why he has such a hold on my heart now. After him and Malaysia got together, that's when Nathan and I started dating.
Finally, after six months, he came back into my life. I was remodeling my shop Smylie Face. It was a sex store, but I was expanding it into a clothing store as well. Channing was the one that helped me come up with the concept for Smylie Face.
I was going off on Joshua, who was head of my design team, when I heard laughter behind me. I turned around and I saw Channing standing there. My God when I saw him, my heart completely stopped.
"Hey, beautiful," he said holding out his arms.
I ran to him. "What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I came to see you. Can we talk?"
"Sure," I said and then led us to my office.
It was so good to see him. "How are you, Jordynn?"
