I was dying a slow death without Jordynn been home, but I knew it was my own fault. When she said that she was pregnant, I immediately thought damn is the baby even mine, but I should have known it was. She would have never told me if she had any doubts. So, she left me for three months. She stayed at the apartment we kept for her.
And with Trudy still staying at the house with me, it was hard to stay faithful those three months. But I knew better. If I had slept with Trudy and Jordynn found out, I'll be a dead man walking. Jordynn would kill me. Besides, I would never disrespect her in that way again. But it was killing me inside.
That day I received that edible arrangement, I knew that was Jordynn's way of getting me to come to her. She knew damn well I dont like pineapples or chocolate, but I knew then that she was missing me.
When I went to the office, I could tell from the look in her eyes that seeing me was the highlight of her day. I know it was the highlight of mine.
After that night, we began planning our wedding. She hired my mom as her wedding planner. I knew she would. Her and my mother were best friends. They had the same sense of style and taste for fashion. I told her I didn't care what she did. I just wanted to stand next to her and say I do.
With her being pregnant, I knew she didn't want to get married while she was showing. I didn't mind though. I didn't want to rush things even though we've known each other for almost three decades. I still wanted things to go smoothly.
It was time for the cake tasting. Jordynn was craving all kinds of weird shit. She was only four months, but she was big as hell. I started tracking what she ate and how much of it did she eat. I just wanted a healthy wife, and an even healthier baby.
Because of the huge amount of weight that she gained with the pregnancy, the doctor put her on bed rest until the baby was born. That drove her insane, but I made her follow the doctors orders. Mama and I did the cake tasting. I had to admit the baker was damn talented.
Hattie, which was the baker, allowed us to sample her famous red velvet cake. And oh, my goodness, I was in heaven. That cake was so delicious. I knew Jordynn would love the red velvet cake.
Mama decided that a winter wedding would be best. That was in the middle stages of the pregnancy. She was six months when we got married. The doctor told her that the honeymoon would be out of the question. Her body couldn't take the extra stress. The wedding was enough.
Mama wanted us to do the traditional wedding vows, but Jordynn and I insisted on writing our own vows. To us that made that moment even more special than sharing it with the one we love.
It was the big day. A day that I couldn't wait to see. To be standing beside my best friend and to call her my wife, it was the happiest day of my life. Mama came and helped me get dressed. Deena was her Maid of Honor, and Trudy and Logan were her bridesmaids. We just had a small intimate ceremony for family and close friends. Camden, who was my best man, walked her down the aisle. She wasn't close to her father; so, she decided not to invite him.
When I saw her walk down that aisle, I got butterflies. Like it was really happening. I was about to marry my best friend. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
When she made it down the aisle to me, I was ready to skip the I dos. I looked her in her eyes, and I knew immediately something was wrong with her. I looked at my mother and told her to come to me.
I grabbed Jordynn, and I said, "Baby, what's wrong?"
"Rosebud, what's wrong, honey?" my mother asked her.
And suddenly, she just passed out into my arms. I was hurting. "Jordynn, wake up baby." All this chaos going on, and I had no idea what to do. Camden rushed to my side, helped me pick her up, and we rushed her to the hospital.
When we made it to the hospital, they rushed her to the back to get her on the monitor because of the baby. I just didn't how to take this.
We sat in that damn waiting room for about three fucking hours. Half of our wedding party showed up to the hospital. We waited and waited and waited.
Finally, we heard, "Jordynn Carpenter's family?"
I jumped up quickly and said, "Yes, sir, that's my fiancée."
"I'm the doctor on duty today. My name is Dr. Heinz. I know that Dr. Perry is her ob-gyn, but we haven't been able to reach him. I did an ultrasound on Jordynn. Did you know she was having twins?"
"TWINS?!" I yelled.
"Yes, sir, but not only that, she was extremely dehydrated as well."
"But how can that be? I monitor her. I give her water, sixteen glasses to be exact, every day. I monitor what she eats and everything."
"Well, knowing what we know now, her food and water intake is being split between three humans here. She's not taking in as much as she needs, and it hurting her, but not only her, also the babies. So, what were gonna do is keep her overnight until we can get ahold of her doctor and see what's the best treatment for her."
"Can I please see her?" I begged him.
"Yes, give me a second for me to get her back to her room, and I'll send a nurse for you."
"Thank you," I told him.
Mama walked over to me. "Wow, twins?"
"I know, right. They didn't see this the last time we done came for the ultrasounds? What are we going to do with twins? She has her companies. I have my job. How can we care for twins?"
"The same way you would if you were only having one child. You work through it together. Shes gonna need you, Channing."
"I know, Ma," I told her.
I started to mentally prepare myself for everything. I was gonna be everything her and those babies need. I was gonna be the best husband and father I can be.
