I was waiting in front of the school for Pete; we had decided to hang out today. Odd, when you first meet someone, but hey, at least I'm making friends, even if one of them is dead and the other is self proclaimed insane. Ryan waved goodbye to me as he got into his friend's car. I had explained my story to him at lunch-the prank story, that is. We were cool now.
I noticed a guy leaning against his car staring at me. He had shoulder length fire truck red hair, and he looked every bit the bad boy stereotype you see in movies. There was something eerily familiar about him, but I couldn't place it.
"Hey, Capulet. Ready to go?" Pete had walked up and made me jump back to my sense. When I looked back over, the red headed guy was hugging some blonde. Pete noticed and filled me in. "Tiffany Blew and Gerard Way."
"Gerard? Mikey's brother?" I looked back at Pete. Something about the two of them made me uneasy.
Pete nodded. "He's different now. I'm not sure if Mikey told you that or not, but he's not as nice as he used to be." Pete sighed looking down. "He's actually really mean to me. I don't know what I did, but Tiffany hates me too because of it."
"Caste system." I stated simply. Gerard and Tiffany were already riding away.
"Yeah."
We started walking to my house. "You seem sad." I asked the shorter boy. Truthfully, we were the same height, but my Vans had a bit of a heel in them.
"My boyfriend's dead, his brother has it out for me, and my childhood best friend is a bitch." Pete shrugged. "I kind of deserve to be sad."
I gave him a sad smile, and held his hand. He looked down confused. "Physical contact supposedly helps calm people down, or soothe them. That's why hugs are so popular."
"Aren't you just a wild card?" Pete laughed. He then titled his head. "I wonder if sex has health benefits."
"Probably. I'm not too sure about the touch levels, but sex is probably somewhere at the top." I shook my head a little laughing.
When we made it to my house, I tugged him down the driveway and to the front porch. I pulled out my key, which I kept on a necklace, and unlocked the door. "My mom won't be home for a while. She works late on Mondays."
I led him up the small staircase to my room. I think it was originally a servant stairway, but it was faster to my room than the official stairway. Surprisingly, Mikey was sitting on my bed reading some old book I got at a garage sale. I glanced at Pete, who seemed none the wiser yet. We tossed our stuff to the side of the room.
"Pete?" Mikey seemed just as surprised to see him as Pete was when he finally noticed Mikey.
"Holy shit, you actually can see him-I can see him." Pete stammered.
Mikey got off the bed and ran over to Pete. They hugged each other so tightly I thought they would merge together. "It's because of Julie, I don't know how, but, oh my god, Pete." I turned my back on them to give them a bit of privacy. I also needed to think. If Pete could see Mikey, does that mean anyone could have seen him on the sidewalk the other day? How is he physically manifested in my room to read?
"How did you guys meet?" Mikey asked. They were sitting together on my bed.
I sat down on the other end as Pete answered. "Indirectly because of Ryan Ross."
Mikey laughed. "Ryan is one nosey motherfucker."
"He looks good though." I reasoned, zoned out and picturing him. I was kind of sad he was gay, but then I wondered if the guy he went home with was his boyfriend.
The two boys laughed. "You'd have better luck dating Tiffany." Pete smirked.
"Oh my god I can see that happening." Mikey laughed.
"Stop picturing porn, Mikeyway." Pete sneered.
Mikey hugged him closer. "You're just sad it's not starring you."
"Maybe I am." Pete shot back. They seemed so much happier together. Like the stars aligned and time didn't exist. They just were there, pretending they were both alive.
I rolled my eyes. "As if. I've never even spoken to her."
"You should. The sex would be great." Pete winked.
Ignoring him, I looked at the book Mikey was reading. It was some vampire book. That would have been a wild AU. Mikey the vampire. I bookmarked his place and set the book on my side table. "Hey, how did you read this while I was gone?"
"Something about your room." Mikey shrugged. He seemed to have given up on trying to reason our connection.
"Do you have a diary?" Pete asked randomly.
I laughed a little uneasily. "Yeah, I've got a lot actually, journals. I started using them in like the eighth grade."
"Go get them." Pete demanded. I got up with hesitation, and went to my desk. I got ten notebooks out. "Holy shit. No wonder he can manifest in here!" Pete exclaimed looking at all my journals.
"Pete, use english." Mikey rolled his eyes. The short boy stuck his tongue out at him, and Mikey looked at his mouth a little too long to be normal.
Pete didn't notice, or pretended not to notice, and started rambling off. "You know how in Harry Potter Voldemort put his soul into his diary?"
Mikey and I looked at each other with some emotion I couldn't identify. Worry? Excitement? Both?
"What if you've done that?" Pete's Eyes we're glowing with excitement.
"I've never killed anyone." I pointed out.
"Technicalities." Pete tutted. "But think about it. Maybe it wasn't a lot, just a little smidge in each. Not enough to notice day to day, but you have so many, maybe together they can hold Mikey here?"
I started pacing to think. "So you think I've made mini horcruxes, and Mikey is able to attach to that bit of my soul as well as me?"
"Yes!" Pete bounced a little too much causing Mikey to wince. Pete glanced at him and quickly mumbled, "Sorry, baby."
"I'm fine." Mikey muttered.
"So, theoretically, if we put the journals somewhere else, Mikey could be there too." I said forming an idea.
"Yeah, probably." Pete answered. I smirked and Pete and Mikey looked at each other confused. "What?"
"How alive were you when it was just you and the books?" I asked Mikey.
"I don't know, I could pet your cat." He shrugged.
"Could it see you?" I asked. Last question, and then it should work.
"Yeah, I think. I didn't ask." His voice was impatient laced with sarcasm. My smirk got bigger, and I started putting my journals in a bag. "Julie, What are you doing?"
"Helping you two out." I grabbed my current notebook and my songbook from my bag and put them in the bag as well. They looked at each other silently hoping the other had an explanation. I handed the bag to Mikey. "There's a spare room is down the hall to the left, blue wallpaper. Don't get anything on my journals, and don't open them."
Mikey and Pete looked at me, then each other, then quickly left the room with a quick "thanks." I laughed quietly to myself. By the time Mikey and Pete came limping back into my room, I had taken a shower and finished all my homework. Pete handed me my journals proudly. I laughed at the two of them. "You're welcome."
"You're my new best friend, Capulet." Pete said as he sat on my bed and started copying my homework.
"Seriously, you're amazing." Mikey huffed laying down.
Pete winked at me. "Was that for me or Cappy?"
"Both." He breathed out. I started laughing, quickly followed by Pete then Mikey. As our laughter died down, we settled back to our respective tasks. Pete was copying my homework, I was brushing out my long brown hair so it could dry, and Mikey had his head on Pete's shoulder half asleep.
"So that happened." Mikey said after a while.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"That should happen again." Pete smirked.
"Easy for you to say. I'm dead and that hurt like hell." Mikey grumbled.
Pete smirked. "You enjoyed it." Suddenly his smile fell. "I feel like there's something morally wrong with this."
Mikey laughed with his eyes still closed. "As if you ever cared about morals."
"Well, yeah, but I don't want our new nervomancer friend to think I'm a necrophiliac." Pete argued.
"Well when you say it like that, of course it sounds bad." Mikey huffed.
"Just say boyfriend." I shrugged. "No need to point out the dead part."
"Okay, stop calling me dead, it's giving me anxiety." Mikey demanded. I nodded and Pete started stroking Mikey's hair.
Eventually, Pete stood up. "I should go. It's late."
"Okay. Stay safe." I waved, and he kissed Mikey goodbye. Mikey followed him outside. I brushed my teeth and crawled into my bed. After a while, I felt Mikey lay down beside me. I wasn't surprised. I suppose after being tough starved for so long, cuddles must seem like heaven.
