I looked out the window, The street lamps cast their sulfurous glow on the wet asphalt.
It was 7:00 PM, as my watch labeled.
Outside, a car door slammed...
The key scraped in the lock.
The door opened with a squeal.
My father was back from work, earlier than he usually does, he smelled like cigarettes and stale sweat.
I have realized he was smoking one, my eyes locked onto the glowing tip of the cigarette.
My father fumbled in his bag for keys.
I don't know what they unlock, but well, he usually never tells me.
My father walks up to me and gives me a warm smile.
"I am back earlier than usual, I have something important to do, but promise me you won't stay awake past 10."
He manages to find the keys as he was speaking.
"I- I promise dad"
I managed to mumble.
He never gave me a reason why to not stay awake past 10:00 PM, I convince myself he just wants me to stay healthy, but my gut tells me there is more to it.
