We as we get closer to the glade Kim looks at her watch, her face blanching. "Shit. Emelia, can you run?"

I look around to see familiar looking walls and vines. We're almost there, but not close enough almost ten minutes away.

"I can try." I say. I adjust my arm pulling it off Kim and I start to move. I start to jog, which is more of a weird three legged limp with Kim essentially dragging me behind her.

"Shuck." I grunt as my wound feels like it's ripping me in half from the extra movement. So much blood leaks out my side it feels like I might run out. As Kim and I round the corner we see the gates start to close.

"SHUCK!" I scream and start running as fast as I can, my hand on my side tears streaming down my face. Kim running beside me dragging me along. She won't make it with me.

"Just go Kim! Leave me!"

"No we can make it!" The gap between us and the gates is only a twenty feet but the doors are closing faster than we can move, at least faster than we can move together.

I push Kim off me. "Go Kim!" She looks at me for a second, the remorse plain in her eyes and sprints ahead easily closing the gap. I start to run by my self the rest of the way, the pain pushing me to the edge of a black out barely conscious.

Kim makes it into the Glade collapsing into Val's arms. I run as hard as I can stumbling and struggling, blood pouring out of me.

When I realize that even if I make it when the doors close I might die from blood loss and damage to my organs. I make it to the Glade doors just barely wide enough for me to fit through.

I turn side ways to squeeze through the doors. I can feel them crushing my ribs, going tighter around me. I feel hands gripping on to my shirt, pulling on my left arm anything they can reach, getting me into the Glade just as the heavy stone doors slam shut.

I breath heavily trying to keep the blackness at bay, struggling stay standing as I feel my self start to loose consciousness.

"Somebody GET A MED-JACK! What the hell happened Kim?" I hear someone yell as I fall against the doors and hit the ground. "Em!" The last thing I see is faces crowding around me before I give into the blackness completely.

I come to with a wrap around my stomach and a dull ache everywhere. I look around to see Sonya, Harriet, Kim and Marina the med-jack talking about me in a tight knit circle the worry plain on their faces.

"She should have woken up by now." Marina says, "I don't know what's wrong with her."

"You know it's rude to talk about someone in the same room?" I laugh, gasping, grabbing my side trying not to move. Remembering that I almost died.

"How long have I been out?" I ask when I can breathe easily again. All of the girls turn towards me relief on their faces plain as day.

"Hey Shuckface, You crazy? What were you thinking?" Kim asks with a smile in her eyes.

"A week." Harriet says sternly.

"Holy shuck, So I'm assuming you guys saw the griever right? And was it cool? What did you find? Did the new Greenie come?" I gush excited for them, and me, to know what they found and how it can help us.

"Em, you're the either the stupidest or smartest shank in the glade and I still don't know which. I'll bring you some food yeah?" Kim says with a laugh, "Yeah. Thanks Kim, for everything." I say meaning it with all of my heart. She shakes her head as walks out of the room.

"You should be fine so long was you don't run for a while. And by a while I mean at least 2 weeks. You're luck you didn't get stung on top of the nasty gouge you got." Marina says smiling at me.

"Thanks Girl. Lucky we have you here."

"Damn straight, none of you shanks would last a week without me." Marina says laughing as she leaves so now it's just me and Sonya and Harriet.

Sonya sits on the bed and grabs my hand, Harriet stands behind her arms crossed furious look on her face.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Harriet shouts at me. "You could have died!"

Sonya shoots Harriet a look. "Harriet, calm down. Give her a chance to explain it okay?" Harriet nods and starts to pace.

"Sonya." I gasp as the full force of my injury comes back to me. The fire shoots across my stomach, I grip Sonya's hand white knuckling it. I take a deep shuddering breath. "Klunk that hurt."

"What was I thinking Harriet? I was thinking that Kim and I couldn't make it back without one of us dying. I was thinking that one of us or one of the gladers who didn't even want to know what a Griever was, was going to die. I was thinking that somebody had to do something different than last time so we could allow some discoveries. So no Harriet, I wasn't thinking about me, or how I might die. I was trying to solve the problem for everybody, no just me."

Kim comes in with a heaping plate of Artemis's food. "Thank god." I say "I'm starving." I wince as I grab the plate and dig in. Shovelling as much food in my face as possible without checking my manners.
