Luke cursed to himself as he tripped over his own feet on his way to a coffee shop, but thankfully, he didn’t make a fool of himself and fall in the middle of the street. He huffed, eyes grey even to the people around him who could see the world in colours. His roommate, Ashton, told him today when he saw him. Ashton already found his soul mate when he was seventeen, which is why he sees the world in colours now. The first thing Ashton said to Luke this morning was how his eyes were so grey and dull instead of their usual bright blue colour – not that Luke has seen his eyes’ real colour. He sees them as grey every day, which is why he just waved it off when Ashton asked him about it and said nothing.
There were bags underneath his eyes because of the lack of sleep lately, and his hair that was usually styled in a quiff was now pushed back with his favourite beanie that Ashton said was grey when Luke asked him about it. He didn’t have enough energy to fix his hair that day, he was literally so tired and feeling empty, but he was never the kind of a person who’d show his emotions, so no one noticed except for the people who can see his eyes are now grey instead of blue. No, Luke was not depressed. But he wasn’t completely happy either. He lived his life as any normal person would, but lately, he’s been feeling really empty for some reason. He thought that the lack of sleep was the reason behind it all, completely ignoring the fact that maybe it’s because of how lonely he felt, too, considering the only person he has in his life now is Ashton.
Walking into the coffee shop, he let out a small breath of relief at the cosy place he just walked into, the complete opposite of the cold weather outside that was causing his lips to get slightly chapped and nails turn a faint colour of blue – light grey to him. He hated the cold, and it’s not even winter yet. It was October, a few days before Halloween, therefore, it was Autumn. It wasn’t cold, not one bit. It was cold for Luke, though. For some reason, he’s cold most of the time. When he walked into the coffee shop, the few people who were there gave him weird looks when they saw him wearing a jacket, but he paid no mind to them.
He headed over to the counter, ordering his usual Americano. He was thankful that there wasn’t anyone ordering in front of him because he didn’t want to wait anymore; he needed coffee to get in a better mood. That day was nothing but bad with the terrible headache he’s been having since the morning, lack of sleep, tripping quite a few times over his own damn feet because of how tired he was, and just being in a bad mood in general; all he wanted is to just have some coffee and relax.
Once his coffee was done, he paid for his drink and took his cup that the barista held out for him with a polite smile. He nodded at her with a faint smile back, turning around and heading over to a table that was by the window. Despite him seeing everything in nothing but the ugly black and white instead of the beautiful colours that he was craving for, he loved looking out the window when he wanted to relax.
He sat down and took a sip of his coffee, instantly regretting it and cursing to himself when he burned his tongue. Now that was added to his list of what is getting him in a bad – worse – mood. He set his cup down and clicked his tongue against his teeth and the roof of his mouth, trying to get rid of the burning sensation. He tends to burn his tongue a lot and he’s cold most of the time, and he has no idea why. All he knows is that he hated both.
Luke spends most of his time thinking of the day he’s going to finally see everything in colours. He was so excited to see how red looks like, mainly because it’s Ashton’s favourite colour. Ashton said that Luke’s favourite colour would probably be blue because it suits him and because it’s the colour of his eyes. He was excited for that, too.
But most of all, he was excited to see green. He heard from Ashton that green is the colour of grass and trees, and Luke always loved sitting on the grass or by trees in the park, and he couldn’t help but think of how he’d love it even more once he finds out how they exactly look like with colours. Maybe he could sit there with his soul mate, too. Maybe they could watch the sunset together, which Ashton said was really beautiful with the orange yellow-ish colour.
Speaking of soul mate, Luke was really excited to know who his soul mate is going to be. Although, he sometimes thinks that he’s never going to meet his soul mate considering he is now twenty, and Ashton met his own when he was seventeen. Ashton assured him that he will meet his soul mate sooner or later, because it takes quite a long time for some people. But Luke didn’t want to meet his soul mate when he’s thirty, or even twenty-five. He always wanted to meet his soul mate in his teenage years, just so they could have fun and be able to spend more time together. When you’re an adult, you tend to be busier than you were when you’re a teenager, and you just simply don’t have as much fun as when you’d be a teenager.
Back to his excitement of meeting his soul mate, he couldn’t help but think about running his fingers through her hair and kissing her. Spending their Friday nights cuddling on the couch together, and maybe on normal weekdays, too. They could watch the sunset together on their first date, as cheesy as that sounds. Would she be a virgin the way Luke is? He never wanted to give away his virginity to any girl; he wanted his first time to be special, and with his soul mate, the girl that he knows is going to be his and only his.
He looked down at his cup, hoping that his coffee has cooled down a bit by now. He picked it up and brought it up to his lips, taking his second sip. “Fuck!” he cursed a bit too loudly when he burned his already burnt tongue, the people around him giving him warning looks.
He shrugged sheepishly, feeling his cheeks heat up in embarrassment. “Sorry?”
