"Gosh you're such a klutz!"
a small brown-haired girl complained to the short boy beside her.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry" the boy replied hesitantly, Rubbing his bandaged arm.
"It hurts me too you 'know!" She sighed
"Why did I have to have such a klutz as my soulmate-"
"Soulmate" Tsukishima had grown to hate the word. He woke up every-morning hoping for a small tinge of pain, but all he ever woke up to was the same empty feeling
Not since he was 10 years old.
For the past couple months Tsukishima had been crying of unbearable pain, First on his stomach, then his hips, then his head. She knew something was off when the boy didn't even want to get out of bed and immediately took him the doctors.
"I'm afraid nothing seems to be wrong"
"I know something's wrong! He's just non-stop-"
"I believe you Mrs. Tsukishima The problem doesn't seem to lie with him." The doctor seemed to avoid her eyes and She felt a growing worry in her stomach.
"It's his soulmate, he's reached the age where he feels half their pain"
"Half? that means.." her eyes widened,
her son's soulmate was in trouble and she couldn't do anything about it.
"I'm very sorry Mrs. Tsukishima there's nothing I can do" The doctor couldn't look the poor woman in the eye, no matter how many times he had shared the news, it never hurt less.
Tsukishima had been looking in between his mother and the doctor, he had never seen his mother look this way before,
Am I sick?
"All I can do is tell you what we know" The women blinked away tears and nodded.
"Around age 10 you will begin to feel half your soulmates pain, Soulmates can choose to take all the pain from their partner or split it, when-"
the man paused and wiped his glasses of non-existent dust.
"When.. one's soulmate dies- their partner loses all physical pain" The women's eye widened.
Tsukishima looked up at his mother and held her hand. He didn't understand what was going on but he wanted to help.
"-there have been cases where one's soulmate had taken all the pain but I wouldn't have my hopes up"
the doctor looked at the small confused boy and gave a sad smile.
"I would keep an eye on him, worst-case scenario... He would need physical therapy. Its very hard living life without pain." The woman nodded and thanked the doctor and left, escaping the stuffy room with Tsukishima behind her.
"Mom am I sick?" Tsukishima asked his mother as she opened the door to her house.
She froze and tightened her grip on his hand
"Come inside Kei" she said quietly, avoiding the boy's question...
he took the cue and silently walked upstairs to his room when
"Mom!" Tsukishima dropped to his knees and grabbed his stomach his eyes full with tears. His mother rushing to his side.
"Mom it hurts so bad" The boy cried. The woman could do nothing but hold her son on the stairs and sob.
