Riley
Lorenzo held the door open for me as we walked in Rodolfo's office after I was finally dressed appropriately. He was sitting at his desk, angrily speaking Italian on the phone. I caught a couple of words: thieving bastards, money lost, kill.
He glanced up at us and began to speak through the phone again, "Il tuo metodo non ha funzionato, il mio metodo è appena arrivato." (Your method didn't work, my method just arrived.)
I tried to mask my nervousness as Lorenzo and I took a seat in front of his desk and Rodolfo angrily slammed down the phone. Rodolfo sucked in a sharp breath as he eyed the two of us and his eyes softened when he looked at me.
"I have a job for you, but first, I need to know. Riley, are you in shape enough to do this? Are you mentally and physically prepared to kill?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yes, sir."
"Good. Lorenzo, brush up with Riley this week on all tasks. Starting tomorrow, Thursday, you will be in full training mode. You leave Saturday night." Rodolfo informed and we both agreed.
"Where are we going, Boss?" Lorenzo asked.
"Felix Lopez has tried to play me like a fool. We recently switched from the Baraja's to the Lopez's in our gun trade. Some of our guns have gone missing since and we haven't received the money owed." Rodolfo started as anger flashed through his eyes.
"We show no mercy, Riley, Lorenzo. You will be flying to Guatemala City, Guatemala where Felix will be dining with his family. You take out everyone to deal with him, leave the children. The wife was in on the deal with him, do not show her mercy. Understood?" Rodolfo asked.
"Yes, sir." Lorenzo and I said simultaneously.
"You're dismissed now, Lorenzo. I'd like to have a word with Riley." Rodolfo said my heartbeat started thumping faster.
Lorenzo gave me that everything will be okay eye look and I nodded at him as he walked out of Rodolfo's office.
"I want to personally make sure you're okay. You mean quite a lot to my nephew and so that means you mean a lot to me as well. Are you sure you're ready for this? I don't want you going if there's even a hint of doubt." He asked sternly and I nodded.
"With the training brush up, I'm one hundred percent positive I'm ready for this. It's time I got back in the game." I admitted honestly and he nodded.
"I also want to thank you for being friends with Francesca in such... awful circumstances. I'm not exactly sure what went on when you both were there, but I'll forever be grateful for bringing us together again. Oh! I almost forgot Dante will be joining the two of you in Guatemala." He said with a big smile on his face.
"She's easy to get along with, regardless if we were beaten or not," I dryly laughed, "Have you guys ordered that DNA test yet?"
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What DNA test?"
My eyes widened, Francesca never told him?
"Riley, tell me what you're speaking of." He demanded and I gulped.
"She thinks... she thought... she, maybe... she- uh..." I stuttered and he raised his eyebrows impatiently.
"She thinks Allie is you guys' daughter," I mumbled and his eyes widened.
He grabbed his phone and dialed a number, "I'd like to see Francesca in my office." He hung up and looked at me.
"Thank you for telling me, you are free to go now." He said and I nodded, getting up and walking out of his office.
I walked in the kitchen to see Lorenzo telling the chef something. The chef smiled and nodded, Lorenzo noticing me upon entry, "Peanut butter pancakes for us!"
I laughed and turned towards the chef, "Can you make an extra batch too? Dante will be joining us."
Lorenzo nodded and I walked up the stairs towards Dante's room. I knocked on his door and Davina opened it, revealing Travis, Clay, and Dante behind her. Davina smiled at me and grabbed my wrist, yanking me inside and shutting the door behind me. I glared at her and rubbed my wrist where she grabbed it, the skin turning red almost instantly.
"What's going o-" I started but Davina cut me off.
"We're going back to Monarch!" She exclaimed excitedly and my eyebrows furrowed.
"Why?" I asked and she held her left hand up, showing me a diamond ring on her ring finger.
"Travis and I are engaged! We have to tell mamma and papà." She said with a great big smile, the same smile reciprocated on all of our faces, including Dante's.
"Oh my... oh- congratulations!" I stuttered, beyond belief.
"We've been together around 5 years so I figured what better time than when things are settled at the moment?" Travis said as he wrapped an arm around her waist and I smiled. I'm so damn happy for them. If anyone deserves this, it's them.
"Damn, I thought I'd get engaged first considering I'm the sexiest out of all of us, but I got cheated on." Clay laughed and I smiled. I admire his ability to make light of a bad situation.
"Uhm, hello? Sexy standing right here." Dante said as he playfully slapped the back of Clay's head and we all laughed. Wait... what about Guatemala?
"When are we leaving?"
"Saturday." Clay said and I sighed.
"We can't go." Dante said and Davina's eyes softened with sadness, "Well, why not?"
"Lorenzo, Riley and I have a business to attend to in Guatemala for zio Rodolfo," Dante said assuredly. (Uncle.)
"Oh... can you come in when you're done? The wedding will be the following Saturday. I want Riley to be my bridesmaid. Mamma will be my maid of honor." She said with a grin and Dante nodded.
"We'll be there, don't worry sorella." (Sister.)
"I love you Riley, Dante. I want you to promise me that you guys will be careful in Guatemala." She said slowly with Travis and Clay agreeing behind her.
"We promise."
