"I'm heading out now!" Belle yelled into the entrance of her father's garage, adjusting the straps of her backpack on her shoulders. The jean material was worn from usage and how long she had been in possession of it, the weight of it much more than it needed to be with the books and snacks she had packed into it.
Her brown hair was half up in a bun, the rest of it in soft curls that hung past her shoulders. Her buttercup yellow t-shirt was loose fitting and was tucked into her overalls that were rolled into capris, her natural style.
"Alright, I'll still be here by the time you get back." Her dad said from underneath the car he was working on.
He owned the only car repair shop in the area, causing him to constantly have something to work on. It left him with zero time for himself, and if he wasn't working on cars he was trying to fix anything that needed repair in their apartment. Even if it wasn't broken.
Belle left the garage that was next to their apartment complex, walking down the sidewalk to the town's library. It was the only part of the town that she could actually enjoy, not that she was around that much anymore anyways.
She had been out of high school for two years now and was going to a nearby college to earn her degree in media studies. She was normally on campus, crashing with one of her childhood friends in her dorm, but she had returned home for the summer.
Entering the highly air conditioned library, she returned the books she had been reading for the past few days and searched through the place for something new. She had already read through the majority of the selection here since it wasn't much, and she was running out of new things without going into the non-fiction section.
Deciding to return to her favorites for a bit, she picked up Narnia and Romeo and Juliet, checking out the books and slipping into her usual place in the corner of the library to read for awhile. It was technically a section designated for teens, but it had the most comfy chairs in the library and you couldn't be seen directly by anyone in the surrounding area.
It was getting dark by the time the library closed for the day, and she walked down the streets with her hands in her pockets and the books in her bag. The thought had crossed her mind to pull out one of her snacks to eat as she walked, but that was quickly replaced by a string of swear words when she saw a pair of guys stumble out of the bar, followed directly by three girls who were trying to woo the taller and more muscular one.
She had gone to school with all five of them, and it didn't strike her as too surprising that they had never left town. Wherever Gaston went, they were quick to follow.
"Belle! Why don't you come join us? The fun was just about to start!" Gaston called out, and anyone with two working eyes, or any of the five senses, could tell that he was drunk.
"I'd rather not. I have to get back and make dinner for my Dad." She didn't know why she didn't just walk past and ignore him. She was partially hoping that by explaining herself it would strike a reasonable brain cell in his head (if he had any left) and he would let her go.
"Can I join you then? I'd love to meet my future father-in-law." The three girls behind him gagged, one of them hanging off his arm to even stand up.
"Yeah, that's not happening." She walked past the group, getting jerked back when Gaston grabbed her wrist and spun her around.
"Don't play hard to get, it only makes you hotter than I can handle." He winked, as if he thought what he was doing was flirting.
"Nobody can say no to you." The shorter guy, Lefou, next to him commented.
"I am saying no, though." She ripped her hand from his grip, speed walking away from him and hoping he couldn't follow her back to the apartment in his drunken state.
Belle sighed in relief when she unlocked the door and threw her backpack onto the couch, throwing herself down next to it and swinging her feet up. She rested her head back, deciding she needed a minute to herself before starting dinner.
"I really need to get out of this place."
