Maurice drove as fast as he could back to their home town, trying to figure out who to go to first. The police were the first to come to mind, but that thought was displaced as soon as he saw the lines of cars and the bright lights pouring out of the bar.
The police would think he was crazy or drunk, but maybe a crowd of buzzed people would help him. It wasn't his best logic, but he was hungry and not thinking straight.
Inside, Gaston was standing on one of the tables with Lefou next to him, boasting to the crowd of people about his latest hunting trip. This was usually what happened each night he was at the bar, and was always the reason Maurice never went, but it's not like many of his admirers remembered in the morning.
"And then! Oh then I plunged my knife-"
"Help! Please! It's Belle!"
"Belle! I just saw her today! Has she accepted that we're going to get married?" The crowd of people turned to look at Maurice, a murmur of rumors in the crowd.
"No, she's locked in a dungeon! A beast took her and-"
"A beast? I think you've had more to drink than I have. Can someone get him some water?"
"I'm sober! I swear! Please help me! I just came from the castle-"
"Castle? There's no castles around here!" The crowd started to laugh, adding to Maurice's frustration.
"There's a castle in the woods. I'll even take you there! I just need help getting my Belle back."
"Wonder why he didn't go to the police."
"Probably because he knows he's crazy."
"Listen, I know I'd love to go rescue Belle like the knight in shining armor I am, but I was in the middle of a story. Go back home and sleep whatever you've taken off. I'm sure she'll be there in the morning."
The crowd turned back to Gaston, waiting to hear the rest of the story they were promised. Maurice started to turn red in the face, and the police came back to mind.
"No! I have proof!" The crowd turned back around and watched as he patted down his pockets in search of his phone.
"Oh man, he lost his phone."
"This is serious."
Gaston stopped and watched him panic and try to remember where he lost his phone to. Leaning down to whisper a plan to Lefou, gaining his approval.
"Alright, alright. I see this is serious now. We'll help you out." Gaston and Lefou jumped down from the table, whispering the plan to the two closest guys that looked like they could do the job.
"You will?" Gaston gave him a reassuring nod as the two guys approached Maurice and took both of his arms to drag him out of the bar.
With the older man struggling against them, it wasn't very hard to convince the police officers at the town station that he was being overly unruly, and they took him home themselves.
Gaston stayed down from his table, now sitting on one of the bar stools and forming a plan with Lefou. It was going to be a stretch, but it was the best they had.
"So tomorrow, if Belle does not agree to my proposal, Maurice gets sent to the mental ward."
