my mind was going 100 miles an hour. no. Jacob has to be okay. I can't live with myself if he doesn't... stay here. i never told him how I really feel. I forgot I was on the phone with ms. Whitesides.

"oh my god." were the only words that would come out of my mouth. my world was crashing and burying me. Ms. Whitesides was completely silent.

"Can I please come to the hospital? I'm begging you. I have to see him." the words rushed out of my mouth. we hadn't known each other that long but we had this, how do I put it without being cheesy, connection. something about him just made my heart skip a beat. I want to tell him i just don't know how. I don't want heartbreak again.

"sure honey. that'd be fine. we're at the hospital closest to quail springs mall room 25. 3rd floor" she sounded depressed and I could understand why.

I was going 30 miles above the speed limit. I still couldn't think strait. I hope he's okay. he could have brain damage and never be the same. I tried to not think about that possibility.

I pulled in the parking lot of the hospital. I got out of the car and slammed the door. I ran. I didn't fast walk. I ran as fast as I could. I had to stop and wait for the automatic doors to open. I looked everywhere for the elevator. I finally found it in the hall to the right. the elevator was already open so I walked in. I was alone. I was shaking violently. I grounded myself and pushed the button that read 3. the elevator went so slowly and I was so impatient. it finally opened. I ran not even thinking. i ran and scanned the walls at the same time. I found it. room 25. i ran in. Jacobs parents stared at me like I was crazy. I slowed my breathing. I looked at jacob. he was asleep.

"can I have a minute?" I asked Jacobs parents.

they nodded their heads and walked out. I scooted a chair up close to Jacobs bed and sat down. he looked horrible. he had a broken arm and a broken leg. there were bruises all over him. he had a black eye and a busted lip. I stared at him. I couldn't stand to see him like this.

"Jacob." was all I could say.

his eyes fluttered open. he was dazed. he looked over and gave me a confused look.

"what?" I said a tear dropping out of my eye.

he hesitated. he looked at me all over. he looked so confused.

"who are you?"
