Nate's POV~

"Get away from me! Please don't hurt me!"

My eyes widen at the horrid words coming out of Amanda's mouth.

"I'm not going to hurt you, it's me, Nate, your brother, I would never hurt you." I slowly inched closer to her.

She took a deep breath, bit her lip, and slowly nodded.

"What do you reme-"

"Nathaniel! What is the square root of 562?" my teacher exclaimed, awakening me from my thoughts.

"Uhh. A number?" I attempt to answer the question.

"Honey! Cole's here!" my mother yells at me from downstairs.

Well that's odd, Cole never told me he was coming over, but whatever.

"Hey Cole!" I say while he walks through the door to my room.

"Nate?" Amanda asks me while walking into my room.

"Yeah, Mandy?" I ask.

"Um, who is this?" Amanda asked, her face looking confused and sight of Cole.

"This is Cole, he's my friend." I replied feeling sorry for my little sister who has gone through more in one week then someone else has their whole life.

"Oh. Okay, have fun then."

"Poor Mandy." Cole said looking like he really felt bad for her.

"Yeah... So," I clapped my hands together, "what do you want for dinner? Oh and I forgot to tell you! I got my acceptance letter to Stanford!!" I exclaimed.

"Really? I applied too and I haven't gotten anything yet..." Cole said, looking down.

"It probably just hasn't gotten to your house yet, I mean your a pretty good student, of course you'll get in!" I tried to cheer him up.

I knew the truth. If the mailman has come to my house to give me the acceptance letter, he should have gone to Cole's house, too.

It's official. my best friend and I weren't going to fulfill our dreams of going to college together.
