Rapunzel's POV
It's my first day of school. I mean, technically not my first day of school ever, if homeschool counts. I've been wanting to go to an actual school for years. Gothel always said that going out in public was this huge danger. It's sad that that fear kept me inside for so many years. That the year I finally get to go to a real school is my senior year.
I jumped out of bed quickly. I'm used to getting up early. I used the bathroom then slid down the railing to get downstairs.
My parents were also getting ready, they're the principal and assistant principal of the school. From what I've seen so far, this school likes hiring locals.
I grabbed a piece of toast and consumed it. I went to run out the door when my dad yelled, "Rapunzel, you forgot your bag, and put some shoes on."
I ran back to grab my bag and reluctantly put shoes on. I don't get how people find these things comfortable. I mean, they completely block off airflow and you can never tell where you're standing.
The school's right around the corner so the walk wasn't much. When I got there I pulled out a piece of paper with my schedule and locker number on it. This place is so confusing. There are so many different hallways and lockers. I don't know how I'll ever find anything.
I spotted a girl further up the hallway and decided to ask her for help. I ran to catch up to her and tapped her on the shoulder. As she spun I felt as if the world was going in slow motion. We both stood still for a second. I decided to ask her for directions before things get awkward.
"Your lockers actually right next to mine. I can show you," she replied.
I thanked her and walked next to her until we arrived at our lockers. She opened hers and I struggled to get mine open. She laughed. Her laugh was so pure. I felt as if I've known her for an eternity just by the sound of her laugh.
She helped me open my locker and I once again thanked her. I then asked her for her name.
"Cassandra," she answered.
"I'm Rapunzel."
She then took a look at my schedule and pointed out that our schedule's were nearly identical, which is a rare happening in high school. Perhaps it's fate.
"Hey Blonde," spoke a tallish man with a goatee as he slid next to me and Cass. His name's Eugene. He was the one who freed me from Gothel. "I was wondering if I could talk to you for a sec," he continued.
"Sure. What's up," I questioned.
"You're the most wonderful person I've ever met Rapunzel and I wanted to ask you to be my girlfriend," he asked with confidence.
"Eugene, you're a nice guy but, I'm gay," I said in a slightly pained tone.
Eugene looked hurt. I felt like garbage. I tried to comfort him but he said he wanted to be left alone for a bit.
Me and Cass went through our day together until the one period we don't share, lunch. We are in different lunch rooms and it's forbidden to sneak into the other one. There's surprisingly strong security focused on keeping kids in their assigned lunch room.
The period dragged. I sat alone and found myself constantly thinking about Cass.
Cassandra POV
Lunch went by painfully slow. I kept thinking about Rapunzel. I want to learn more about her. I want to get close to her. I've never felt this way about anyone before. What could it mean?
After lunch Rapunzel ran up behind me.
"Hey Cass, how was lunch?"
"...Cass," I said slowly.
Rapunzel began in a panicked tone, "Do you not like it, I could stop calling you it-"
I cut Rapunzel off, "No I just- no ones ever given me a nickname before."
"Awwwwww," Rapunzel said.
"Shall we head to class Raps," I asked.
Rapunzel looked me in the eyes, smiled, and nodded her head.
