You looked at him, who was taking your teasing seriously. He was staring at the car window, hesitant to show his face.
"But it's okay," he added in a softer, seemingly more vulnerable tone, "I met her too late."
"I'm sorry for bringing it up," you spoke, no longer expecting him to respond.
The car ride didn't take too long, but the seconds passed on like dreadful hours, thanks to the awkward silence you know you caused.
Thankfully though, they chose a location near TK, making it much more convenient for you. The driver opened the door for you and you thanked him before leaving.
"Good afternoon, Director!" you heard the voices of the staff as you walked pass them.
Dan, walking beside you, finally talked. "The actual photoshoot will take place there, Director," he said, "But they're still preparing."
"Oh, Y/N-chan," you heard Wakatoshi's voice and swayed your head to the side.
"Toshi-kun," you looked up at him.
"I didn't know you'd be here," he tilted his head, "Do you have business-related matters?"
"No, I just wanted to see you," you admitted.
"Ah, I see," he nodded with a stoic expression.
"By the way, Shirabu-san's getting married, have you heard?" you asked and walked with him.
"Yes, I wanted to decline it but he picked me as his best man," he explained.
"Why decline it in the first place anyway?"
"Training," he answered, "The coach has been disappointed with me lately."
That was news to you, he never mentioned anything like that. Now that you think about it, he barely talks about his career.
"Why?" you asked.
"I don't want to talk about it," he answered. It surprised you. His tone was cold and distant, sending chills down your spine.
"O-okay," you sighed and looked at him.
"Ushijima-san, we're about to start," you heard a man, probably the photographer.
"He's referring to me, I think," Wakatoshi spoke, to which you nodded in response.
"I'll just go watch you model," you told him and walked to the sidelines, where Dan patiently waited.
"Okay."
You sat beside Dan and observed the staff, "Are you okay, Director?" he asked and lifted a brow.
"Huh?"
"You tend to tap your finger on your lap or a desk when you're mad. But you play with your nails and fingertips when you're anxious, which is what you're doing right now," he explained.
"Secretary Dan, how do you know all that?" you looked at him, weirded out, "Such intricate detail."
"Ami-san told me to pay attention to body language," he referred to your previous secretary, the one who trained him before.
"So it's a work thing, huh?" you shook your head and finally smiled.
"A work thing?"
"I'm good enough to still work, don't worry," you reassured him.
"A little more to the left please," you heard the photographer in front. He was giving instructions to Wakatoshi.
"Well, what other weird mannerisms do you know about me? I do it all unconciously, Secretary," you asked as you stared at Wakatoshi.
"Is this a test, Director?" he asked.
"Maybe?"
"Director, you really never tap your foot, but when you do, it's on instances you're frustrated at work," he started.
"Really?"
"Yes. That's how you reacted to me, when I gave you my very first report. You looked disgusted."
"Oh, hehe," you pressed your lips.
"Was it really that bad?" he asked and shook his head.

After another long tiring day, you finally arrived at home, more than eager to rush to your Wakatoshi's loving embrace.
"I'm home!" you exclaimed and hoped to hear the usual, "Welcome home."
Instead, amidst the well-lit house, it was all just silence.
"Toshi-kun?" you called him and dropped your bag to go look for him.
"Oh, Y/N-chan," you heard him upon entering the bedroom.
"There you are," you sighed in relief.
He was working on something in the computer and you stood beside him with your arms raised, expecting a hug.
"Yes?" he asked and looked up at you.
"Hug," you had to point it out.
"Ah, sorry," he muttered and if you saw it correctly, he let out a sigh.
He stood up and obliged to your request of a hug. Afterwards, he got back at his desk and continued what he was working on.
He seemed a little grumpier and you tried brushing it off, maybe he was just focused on what he was working on.
You changed your clothes and stretched before going back to him, "What are you watching?" you asked and peeked at the screen.
"Toshi-kun," you mumbled.
"What?" he looked at you and sighed again, he didn't try to conceal how irritated he was.
"I was just asking what you were watching," you furrowed your brows.
"Volleyball, Y/N, volleyball! Footage of how I managed to serve 3 outs in a row," he slightly raised his voice.
"Why are you mad at me? I was just asking! And I never knew that," you defended.
"You never tell me anything either," you added.
"You never have time for me," he spoke bluntly.
"You said you were okay with my career," you protested.
"I don't even get to see you anymore," he added.
He was right.
"I wake up alone, I get home alone," he continued and stood up.
He left you speechless and he turned the laptop off. He grabbed the jacket idling on another chair and put it on.
"Where are you going?" was all you could ask but the only response you heard was the sound of the door closing.
