"See you later," you recalled Wakatoshi's words earlier as you rode the car on your way home. His tone was the same, stoic and almost emotionless, but you could tell he was disappointed.
"We're here," the company driver parked the car in front of your house.
"Director Ushijima," he got your attention after you spaced out.
"Ah, yes, thank you," you spoke and stepped out. You gazed at the comforting scenery of your house, and looked at the window. The lights weren't on yet, meaning, your husband hasn't gotten home yet.
You grabbed your keys from your bag and opened the door, expecting to see the dark and empty living room. However, what greeted you as you entered was the instrumental of your wedding song, softly playing on the speakers. You looked around right after you took off your shoes and saw a familiar silhouette near the sofa. It was your dear husband, Wakatoshi, dozing off in the darkness.
You looked at him admiringly and you couldn't help but smile at him. You gently caressed his hair and crouched, giving him a kiss on the forehead, "I'm home," you muttered, trying not to wake him up. You looked at the kitchen and saw the fridge completely untouched, he hasn't eaten anything yet.
Despite the tiresome day you had as usual, you found the energy to make him his favorite meal, Hayashi rice. You had all the ingredients on the fridge since you planned to make it just a few days ago but never had the time.
You turned on the kitchen lights and prepared to cook. You tied up your hair into a neat bun and as you grabbed your apron, you decided to change to your comfortable night clothes.
The Very Thought of You
Nat King Cole
The very thought of you
And I forget to do
The little ordinary things
That everyone ought to doNot long after, it was time for you to cook. You hummed along the music muffled by the kitchen walls and reminisced your wedding as you cooked. Though a lot of company partners came as guests, you insisted on doing popular games Wakatoshi searched up online. You remembered the details you loved the most, the way he put on your ring on your ring finger, the way he kissed you, and of course, your dance.
I'm living in a kind of daydream
I'm happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me, that's everythingAs soon as you finished cooking, you prepared the food on the table and even placed the utensils already. You hummed to music and as you can clearly recall, the song playing now was the one you danced to. Your body swayed slightly, following the beautiful rhythm of the song.
The mere idea of you
The longing here for youMuch to your surprise again, as you turned around, you saw Wakatoshi smiling at you.
"Why did you stop dancing?" he asked, lifting his brows.
"Toshi-kun," you bashfully called out his name, shy that you got caught dancing on your own.
He approached you, still smiling, "May I have this dance?" he asked and offered you a hand.
You'll never know
How slow the moments go
'Til I'm near to youWithout hesitation, you held his hand and looked up at him tenderly. You stepped closer to him, placing your other hand near his neck, as he gently placed his other on your waist. With your eyes glued on him, you let him lead.
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's the thought of you
The very thought of you, my loveIt was merely a kitchen, nowhere as near as extravagant or elegant as the wedding you two were reminiscing, but as you slowly swayed with him under the yellow light, all you could think of was him, and him alone.
"I love you," he whispered on your ear, "I love you so much," he repeated.
"I love you too," you whispered back.
