Chapter Six:
I didn't want to stay at anyone's house, I avoided my two best friends at all cost, I haven't had contact with anyone. I slept in my truck, with my bike in the cargo hold I had to buy a tarp to place over it when it decided to rain. My whole life was crashing and I didn't know how to fix it. Jughead tried to call me a couple of times, but I ignored everyone's calls. None from FP. I would just sit in my truck and watch rain droplets fall down the windows. I stayed in there for weeks, the only time I went out was to get food or to go to the bathroom and take a shower, I would go at Toni's when she wasn't home--she always knew that I was though.
My phone started to ring, I didn't want to look at who it was but I did anyways. It was my lawyer, I had to answer it.
"Hello?" You could hear the tremble in my voice.
"Hi is this Elizabeth Jones?" I don't understand why she always asks this, but I always answer with yes. "Elizabeth, we have a situation."
"What situation?" I rest my head against the headrest.
"FP Jones called and told me that he is no longer putting in his adoption papers for you." I thought my heart had been broken enough, until I heard that. "Right now you don't have a legal guardian which is not a good thing, where have you been staying?"
I was hesitant to answer her question and I lied to her. "I've been trading between my friends couches." I sigh.
"Yeah we can't allow that. Elizabeth I'm sorry to have to say."
"So don't say it--please." My voice cracked.
"I'm sorry Elizabeth, but you need a guardian. You have to move in with your biological family. If you don't a judge will either make you or put you in foster care." She sighed.
Tears start going down my face. "O--okay I'll stay with my biological family."
"I know this is hard, but it will get better eventually."
Eventually--the word that no one wants to hear because it never actually happens. A child tells their parents that they'll get their chores done eventually, they'll get paperwork done eventually, FP will eventually adopt me, my life will eventually get better. It's all shit.
"I will check up on you every saturday to make sure you are being treated well and aren't getting into trouble. I'm sorry about everything Elizabeth." She sighed. "I'm gonna be at their house in around nine so make sure you're there." The call ended.
I throw my phone to the side in anger and hit the wheel. I started the truck and drove towards the privileged, saying my possible goodbyes towards this side, towards my friends, and towards my gang. I've been to this side multiple times yet everyone always stares when I drove towards the Cooper house. I guess it will be house soon. I parked down the street and changed into something more clean and appealing so Gladys didn't throw a fit. When I changed I started the car again and drove in front of their house. I got out leaving my bags in my car and my locked bike in the cargo bed. I shamefully walked towards the front door and knocked.
It took a couple of minutes until Jughead opened the door, when he opened the door all he could see was the face of defeat. He let me in and brought me to the kitchen where he started making tea. I didn't talk all I did was stare, Jughead put the cup in front of me and sat next to me rubbing my back trying to make me feel better. Hours passed and he sat beside me the whole time, his father got home from work and was surprised to see me.
"Hey Betty! Surprised to see you here." He put down bags of groceries on the counter. "What's wrong?"
I stayed silent I just stared at the cold tea that rested in front of me. Jughead walked towards his father and brought him into the other room. I could hear them trying to whisper. A tear fell down my cheek as they were talking.
