I skipped along a path in the forest while Ruri followed closely behind, running occasionally to catch the small butterflies that lingered near. Due to my carelessness, I tripped over something hard and fell face first onto the hard dirt ground.
"Ow, oowow!" What piece of sh*t tripped me? I looked down a saw a large bundled...lump. Taking a few cautious steps back, I grabbed a stick and started to prod 'it' softly.
"Oi, oi...OI!!" The mass shuffled a bit before ceasing all movement.
"...I think I...just found a dead person."
Shaking slightly I continued, "I-is...this the rumored z-zombie I heard so much about?!"
With gleaming eyes, I whipped around to face Ruri.
"Ruri, this must be the most ultimate discovery of all! Hah!" I swear Ruri was like, face meet my palm. But still.
Oh. MEH. GERD! *does a happy dance* Kneeling down and bowing in the traditional way, I introduced myself. "Hello zombie-san, my name is Kasumi."
Recieving no answer, I tapped on its shoulder.
"Zombie-san you hear me right? ZOMBIE-SAAAAN."
*shuffle* I whooshed past Ruri and clung to one of the trees. Man that surprised me.
The lump got up slowly and straightened up. It was like watching an old man suddenly turn young again, if that made any sense. The figure was at least taller than me by a few inches.
In voice that was clearly underused because of how raspy it was, the figure spoke."Who...dares trespass..the Forest of the Kitsune?"
I looked up into the face of the speaker. The hood that it wore fell away, revealing the shock of white pooling at it's feet. Gazing at her face, I was...mesmerized. The more I stared, the more beauty I saw.
This..didn't belong here.. It was other worldly, and just... Lost in the depths of her ruby red eyes, I stood transfixed.
Her gaze never wavered or strayed from mine and pierced my very soul. "Speak..human." My lips parted, but no words came out. Eyes widening, I managed to spit a few words out. "I-I was j-just.."
Man, I sound so stupid right now. I slowly raised both of my hands and slapped both sides of my cheeks. I grinned back at the being.
She seemed surprised, but soon reverted back to her 'godlike' expression. I snickered softly. "I was just taking a walk."
This time she didnt even bother masking her surprise. "Really? You weren't here to capture me? Or...kill me?"
I scrunched my face up, "Of course not. What kind of sick monster would do that to you?"
"If you put it that way...then there are a lot of sick monsters around here."
I furrowed my eyebrows together, "You have to tell me who then, I'll protect you!"
I then frowned for the second time, this kind of abuse is intolerable! Looking at me for a while, she finally nodded and seemed to make up her mind about something.
With a poof, she transfomed into a small fox. The fox sat near my foot and looked into my eyes. "I, the Kitsune of this forest will serve and obey you till the day you die. No harm shall come to you." Poofing back to her human form she knelt down and took my hand, pressing her forehead on it.
By now, I was blushing like crazy...from excitement of course. Well, maybe not the offer of eternal servitude. But at least at the poofing back and forth part. It was pretty cool.
Gotta learn the poof thing, looks pretty useful. *cough* scaring the shit out of sensei *cough* I squatted down and looked her straight in the eye.
"I really don't know why you would offer your services to someone like me." I sighed and offered her a small smile. "In this world..I'm nothing special. I'm just a lost little girl who, like many others, experienced a little sadness...nothing I can't overcome... So, why me?"
"Kindness isn't what most would offer me."
She chuckled softly before continuing, "I like you...for what you are. From the look in your eyes, I see determination, a caring soul, and a trace of leadership. Your eyes contain many more traits, but I care not to list them all. You are special in your own way, so do not doubt yourself my master...I would risk my life for you any day."
I blinked. A rush of emotions followed the warm words that embedded itself into my heart.
"Wow..that was just really, really..." I stopped, unable to continue because of the flow of tears threatening to leak out of the corner of my eyes.
"I-" my voice cracked.
"No one has treated me like that for a while now. I never had someone in my life that cared for me just like my parents did. Let alone someone I just met for a day!"
Feeling something warm on my shoulder, I looked up.
"It's..okay to let out your feelings out...ya know? Crying isn't for the weak, it's for those...who have been strong..for far too long."
There was something about this majestical being that made me want to spill all my secrets and take down my facade. There was something...familiar about her...
Tears streamed down my face like no tomorrow and I started to hiccup and blubber uncontrollably like a baby.
"O-okaa san, O-otou san...I-I really m-miss you. I-I'm not as strong as everyone thinks I am a-and every night I ask god, or whoever is up there...why? HAVE I COMMITTED A SIN IN MY PAST LIFE? WHAT HAVE I DONE!!"
Pulling at my hair I felt my legs give way, and my body sink to the ground. Feeling my heart break apart all over again, I curled up into a ball and immersed myself in the painful memories that I thought I had long forgotten.
A warm hand stroked my hair and left me with a comfort similar to the times I had with my parents. The throbbing in my heart died down a bit and I let the warmth I felt spread slowly though out the dark corners of my heart. What a major break down session...
Feeling sleep creeping on me, I slipped into the welcome darkness. Thankful for the escape, I slept.
"Kasumi..." a voice breathed into my ear. My eyes flickered and opened abruptly. I stood up and looked around. Seems like I was sucked into yet another strange and warped vortex.
Choosing my words carefully I spoke, "Who are you...and what do you want with me?" Very original, I know. A woman materialized in front of me.
"There isn't much time to explain. I have come to bring you a message." I stayed quiet and knew better to interrupt her and ask stupid questions.
"Your friends will soon be in danger. As you know, the current headmaster is an imposter. For all we know, he may just be a pawn controlled by another, even bigger and sinister force. You never know...but all I can do is warn you of what may come. Take care...my beloved...niece."
"A-auntie? No! Come back!!"
Nyahaha cliffhanger! Well...anyone notice a quote from...a certain anime? Comment below! Oh and vote please! Aritgato nee!!
