I was standing by the big windows facing the lake. The sunset made the water turn into all kinds of colors, shimmering as if diamonds were floating on it.
The lake house was just as impressing as their actual house, if not more. It had this whole country feel to it, with both floors and walls of wood, and interior of different shades of beige and white. I really liked it and I actually happened to find it very romantic.
The moment we got in, the talking and normal atmosphere started returning. Blake had showed me to my room, which I was sharing with Jade. I was already looking forward to getting to know her, imagining the two of us laying at night gossiping and sharing secrets. I was maybe turning eighteen in under three months, but I was positive that the girly teenage sleepovers never would be something I grew out of.
Blake and Chase had their own rooms and Darren shared bedroom with Blake. It almost made me feel bad that Chase was the only one that had to sleep alone, but then again, he didn't really sound like he wanted to be around any of us in the first place.
Speaking of, I looked at the clock. 10:43 p.m. Shouldn't he have been here by now?
"You like it here?"
I turned around and was met by the sight of a smiling Blake. He handed me a cup of hot chocolate.
"I know it's summer and like super-hot outside, but the time is always right for hot chocolate."
I smiled. "Now that, that you are right about."
He sat down on the sofa facing the view and I went to sit down next to him.
He leaned back letting out a deep breath. "I'm sorry," he said, after some time.
I turned to him, a little confused. "What do you have to apologize for?"
He bit his lip while looking away before facing me again. "Literally every time we have hung out, you've been forced to witness some sort of stupid fight or well ... there has always been a problem."
"Whaaat?" I dragged out, ending it with a smile.
He rolled his eyes a little. "I just don't get why you still want to hang out with me..."
"Why would you say that?" I laid my face sideways on the couch.
"Well, I mean, okay, I guess I'm just scared that the fight today scared you away." He looked carefully down into my eyes.
I held his look for a moment, while wondering; did it? I had to admit that I felt something different when laying my eyes on Blake now. It wasn't like before, when I was convinced he was just a great and perfect good guy who had to live with such a "jerk like Chase". And now I knew there were reasons for Chases "jerk behavior." I mean, that did change something.
But then again, I hadn't given Blake a chance to explain his side to the story. The only facts and way I saw it now, was from Chases point of view; Blake lied about Chase to make his girlfriend brake up with him.
"But why did you do it?"
Okay, judging by the look on Blakes face, he did not expect that question. "Ehh," he stuttered, looking away.
I just waited for him to answer. I had time.
He rubbed his forehead. "This is going to make me sound so pathetic."
Oh, exiting.
He looked at me. "Okay, so as you've probably gotten by now, Chase kind of have a better game with the girls than me, and..."
