Truth Or Dare?

"This is delicious," I said, my mouth full of waffles.

"Mm," Jade hummed.

All five of us sat in the living room, eating and just chilling, as the sun went down over the mountains, sending orange light in through the big windows. I was laying in Blakes arm, thinking, pretty nervously about the topic I was going to bring up later that day. Darren sat on the floor, his legs crossed, and Jade sat next to me, sending glances every now and then over at Chase, who leaned back in a chair, his feet on the table.

I wondered how often Jade had peeked over at him before, only then I hadn't noticed.

Blake started playing with my hair, making me tilt my head up to look at him.

"You look so cute right now," he said, smiling, while studying my face.

"Well so do you," I smiled, wondering how cute he would think I was later this night, wearing nothing but my bare skin. Then my thoughts flickered back to Chase and Jade. Yes, I had to find out what Chase thought about Jade. "Let's play a game!" I exclaimed.

Everyone looked at me, somewhat in confusion, waiting for me to elaborate. "A game?" Blake asked.

"How about truth or dare?"

I noticed a look of terror in Jades face.

Darren, sitting wrapped up in a blanked, looked playfully at Jade, wearing the same smug face he wore earlier that day. "I'm in. Let's spill the secrets." He rubbed his hands with a smirk. What had he become? An evil teen girl villain?

Jade raised her eyebrows, her look telling me "absolutely not", and I started to realize that spilling secrets in the whole group perhaps wasn't the right way to find out if Chase was interested in her or not.

But it was to late for that realization to come. Blake and Chase nodded, seeming to agree about something for the first time in forever.

"Sounds fun," Chase said and leaned forward, leaning his weight on his elbows which were on his knees. "Truth or dare Kate?"

I froze for a moment. That was fast. I looked at everyone in the room who now had their eyes at me. Also Jade, who was passively watching through her glass of soda.

I hesitated before answering but decided that I was going to prove to Jade that I was someone to trust. "Truth," I said.

"Surprising," Chase whispered sarcastically.

What was that supposed to mean?

"Okay, I just have to ask this. What about Blake makes you like him?"

Everyone sighted. There was yet another 'Blake suck' comment. Chase put his hand up in defense. "That wasn't meant in a mean way."

Sure...

I looked at Blake, trying to think of what to say, before facing Chase again. "He is just really good to me."

Chase squinted his eyes. "That's it?"

"That's it? What do you mean? That's a great thing!" I looked up at Blake again, who was smiling. Yeah, he thought so too.

"Okay then," Chase said, leaning back.

"Okay," I said, rubbing my hands. I peeked over at Jade who sat almost a bit shyly there, with her eyes looking down into her glass. "Jade."

She looked at me in surprise with her eyes wide open, before shaking it off. "Truth."

I nodded. Where the hell was I going with this? Obviously, it would make me a terrible friend if I straight out asked her who she liked, but how was I going to bring Chase into this if not?
