Harry's. P.O.V (Wednesday)
Draco and I make our way back to the library after dinner ended. It was beginning to get darker outside and the sunset sent golden rays through the multiple windows of Hogwarts. We left our stuff by our previous seat in the library in order to hold it for our return and were happy to see our stuff still remained as we entered the towering library. I hadn't even realized we have been walking in silence until Draco spoke beside me:
"So, how much work do you still have to do? I have maybe a half hours worth."
I am suddenly coldly reminded that I had done barely anything in the previous hours we spent at the library. It also dawns on me that I need to tell Draco that I have done none of what might be two hours worth of work. Since we were bonded, that means he has to spend another hour and a half in the library doing nothing while I finish my stuff. This wasn't going to be pretty.
"So.. umm.. your gonna laugh.. But I haven't done anything yet.... sooo yea"
Draco gives me the ultimate "are you f****** serious" look and buries his head in his palms, lifting my bonded hand alongside with it.
"Pott- Harry what the hell. How could you not have done anything??"
"I was busy thinking about other stuff!" I shoot back.
"What other stuff???" he retorts.
It dawns on me that my response was poorly chosen and I have no good excuse that covers the fact I was battling with my possible feelings for him for hours. In a panic I respond
"Its none of your business!"
He pinches the bridge of his nose and I can see him desperately trying to hold himself together.
"Well it is now since I am going to be stuck here for way longer than I need to!" he retaliates angrily, "Ugh, whatever it is too late now to change your poor choices or terrible work ethic. Because I don't want to be stuck here forever I am going to let you copy off my homework"
I am preparing to snap back at him but that last part catches me off-guard.
"Wait, really?" I ask surprised.
"Yes really, but JUST. THIS. ONCE. I am not going to be your personal scapegoat for homework"
He takes his time accentuating each word of "just this once" to ensure I understand, and, although he still sounds annoyed, he sounds just a little bit less annoyed than before. Probably because he has accepted defeat. Still, I feel the need to thank him.
"Thank you Draco" I reply sincerely.
We both look at each other for a couple moments, silent and reading each others eyes. Draco turns his face away quickly, but not before I catch the pink tinge on his face. It dawns on me that I have seen that pink tinge before, but have always overruled it as embarrassment, is it possible it is something more? No. Don't be ridiculous. Just because you feel one way doesn't mean he does too. I am snapped out of my thoughts once more by Draco's voice.
"Yeah, its no problem. Now come on I wanna get this done sooner rather than later."
He begins to make his way to our saved table, dragging me with him, without looking back. Since I was copying Draco's homework, we both finished what we had to do about a half hour later instead of an hour and a half later. Still, by this time the last rays of golden light are seeping through the windows, threatening to surrender to darkness. The candles of the library automatically light themselves in response to the oncoming darkness, much like the streetlights of the muggle world, and the library is shrouded in golden glow. I hear a book shut beside me and I look over to see Draco stretching and yawning in his chair.
"Welp, I think that's all for today. How do you feel about turning in early tonight, because I am exhausted."
I simply nod in response as I, once again, find myself entranced by him. He is running his hands through his platinum blond hair, attempting to tame it. He is smiling at me as one side of his face is showered in a golden glow from the light emitting from the candle beside us, a perfect contrast to his pale skin and grey eyes. Without even thinking, I find myself reaching for him with my free hand. I start by running the back of my hand along the right side of his jawline, which is the side catching the firelight. My eyes following my hand as it goes. Merlin, his jaw is so smooth, there are no imperfections. Before I know it I grab the tip of his chin lightly between my pointer finger and thumb and tilt his head forward. All is silent for a couple moments as I contemplate if I should do what I wanna do next, neither of us move. His voice is soft, barely a whisper, as he asks,
"Harry?"
His words snap me out of whatever trance I was in. Suddenly, the realization of what I am doing hits me like the Hogwarts express and I pull my hand back in a blind panic. So much for my Gryffindor courage. I look up to meet Draco's eyes and see the same confusion and panic plastered over his now beat-red face. Oh my Merlin what did I just do. I then begin to try and explain myself in a blind flurry of nonsensical words.
"Draco.. I- I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me... I- oh Merlin"
He, in a similarly flustered tone, responds
"Oh.. uhh... no- no its fine.. umm"
Both of us avoid eye contact out, not really knowing what to do next. Finally, Draco tries to change the subject
'Well.. we better be heading back now."
I nod, still avoiding his gaze. We both stand up simultaneously and begin to make our way through the halls, heading back to our dorm room, unable to say anything. What the hell am I going to do now.
