"So, why were you standing looking at the abyss at 5 in the morning? Was it a nightmare or something?" she asked, sipping her coffee while staring at me. I looked around, the shop was crowded with people buzzing about their own shallow lives. I just remained seated, avoiding eye contact with her. I don't even know her name, out of all things to remember I didn't remember the one significant detail that I needed to know. I am her husband and it's my responsibility to know her name, to remember it, to cherish it. "Uhh, I'm sorry what is your name again?" I gulped, sweat trickling down my forehead even though the clouds still covered the sun. It wasn't hot at all, but the crowd seemed to be trapping alot of heat. "Well I'm Joanne" she rolled her eyes and I didn't take any notice of the sarcasm which resided in her tone. "Okay Joann-" She interrupted me with a scoff.
"Cut the act, it's not funny anymore. Just forget it okay? Anyway the real reason I wanted to have this coffee is to talk to you about our future." She became cold and insensitive and suddenly changed her behavior in a second. She didn't seem loving anymore. "Our future? Do you want children?" I asked, confused and bewildered by the expression on her face. "Jake are you kidding me? No I don't want any children! What the fuck is wrong with you today? I'm talking about our profession!" She yelled, attracting unnessecary attention. "Relax, the fucks' wrong with you? You know ever since today morning I don't know what's been happening or why. I don't even know what we do, who you are and where I am. Just tell me, everything." I emphasized, I knew if I couldn't control myself I won't be able to control where my life is heading and that is important right now. Ever since that stupid dream, I couldn't focus on anything.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Just can't get my head around this crap. So please, don't ask and just tell me every little detail." I sighed hoping she wouldn't ask any more questions.
"I think you need to see a docter but before that, I'll tell you a summary of our lives. My name is Summer Elderant and you are Jake Miller, we married in 2011. I'm 26 years old and you are 27 years old. Now, the really important stuff. Our profession is..." she suddenly bent closer, her perfume scent was incredibly invigorating "We are specialised criminals. We steal, we kill, we sell and if our employer wants we trade people. It's a dirty job. But we do this to survive."
